Head-to-Head: Liverpool vs Chelsea

Astoundingly, each of the last seven meetings between Liverpool and Chelsea have finished in a draw. That includes the last five matches on the Premier League schedule between these two sides. At Stamford Bridge in August, Axel Disasi canceled out Luis Diaz’s goal in a 1-1 deadlock. Four of the last five meetings, in all competitions, have finished scoreless. Chelsea have averaged under one goal per game over the last 10 EPL meetings.

Klopp Leaving Liverpool at End of Campaign

Liverpool have added motivation to win the Premier League title, given this is Jurgen Klopp’s last season as manager. Last week, Klopp announced he’d be leaving his post at the end of the campaign after nine successful seasons. The Reds, who are currently in first place in the EPL standings, show +250 odds to win the title this campaign. However, Mohamed Salah picked up a hamstring injury at the Africa Cup of Nations and it’s unclear how much time he’ll miss.

On Sunday, Liverpool cruised to a 5-2 win over Norwich City in the FA Cup fourth round. Five different players got on the scoresheet in the win. Liverpool is now on a nine-game unbeaten run, in all competitions. With a 1-1 draw vs. Fulham last week, Liverpool also advanced to the EFL Cup final.

Heading into this one Darwin Nuñez and Diogo Jota have both scored three goals in their last three appearances. However, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago, Joel Matip and Wataru Endo are all out for this one. Regardless, the Liverpool vs Chelsea preview odds price the Reds as -170 favorites.

Chelsea Improving in Recent Weeks

Chelsea took on Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round last Friday and the match finished scoreless. The two teams will contest a replay match in Birmingham in early February but first Chelsea have EPL matches at Liverpool and vs. Wolves. Chelsea enter this match on a three-game Premier League winning streak and they seem to be gaining in confidence week after week.

The Blues are a much better soccer betting pick now than they were at the beginning of the campaign and key contributors include Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, and Thiago Silva. Notably, Chelsea has only defeated two current top half teams in the Premier League this season and this will represent a big test for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

Bettors should note that Nicolas Jackson, who has scored seven times in the Premier League this season, is away at AFCON. Meanwhile, Malo Gusto, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez, Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana could all miss this match due to injuries. Chelsea currently holds a 4-1-5 record on the road in the EPL this season.

Liverpool vs Chelsea Analysis & Odds

With the recent history of this fixture, bettors may be tempted to take an eighth straight draw at +360 odds. Just two goals have been scored in the last five meetings, in all competitions. Still, Liverpool are usually on the ball at Anfield, where they hold an 8-2-0 EPL record this season. The Reds enter this match as -170 favorites and Liverpool -1 comes in at -110 odds. Chelsea last won at Anfield in the 2020-21 season and are +400 underdogs to do so here.

The Liverpool vs Chelsea preview price Chelsea +1 at -110 odds. Chelsea have lost by more than a one-goal margin on the road on three occasions this season. With Salah out, Liverpool still has offensive weapons like Nuñez, Jota, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo. Pochettino opted to play Palmer up front for Chelsea on Friday and either he or Armando Broja should play the number nine role.

This has typically been quite a low-scoring fixture and under 3, 3.5 goals show -120 odds for this one. Chelsea have conceded just twice in their last five games overall but Liverpool have averaged nearly three goals per game with Salah out.
