    • Last Match: 6-0 W vs. Morocco
    • Next Match: August 3rd vs. South Korea

Germany dominated in their 6-0 win over Morocco to emphatically kick off their tournament. Alexandra Popp, one of the best players in the tournament, starred in the first half. Popp was the joint-top scorer at last Summer’s Euros and she found the net twice vs. Morocco. Popp, a striker, headed home twice in the first half vs. Morocco.

Klara Buhl and Lea Schuller also got on the scoresheet as Morocco scored two own goals in the match. The six-goal margin of victory was the largest at the tournament so far and it marked a 20th straight group stage game for Germany without a loss. That’s the longest-ever streak in FIFA Women’s World Cup history. So, it’s no surprise that the Germany vs. Colombia odds price the Germans as favorites for this match.

As the second-ranked team in the world, soccer predictions frequently list Germany as among the favorites to win the Women’s World Cup. They have a long way to go but couldn’t have asked for a better result in their opener. Barring disaster, Germany should easily qualify for the knockout stage as they’ll also be favored vs. South Korea.

Colombia Impress in Opener

Prior to Monday, Colombia had won just one of their seven FIFA Women’s World Cup games. In a composed and confident display, Colombia defeated South Korea 2-0 to put themselves in an excellent position in Group H. Catalina Usme opened up the scoring in the 30th minute with a well-taken penalty. Less than ten minutes later, 18-year old Linda Caicedo announced herself on the world stage. She went on an exhilarating solo run and managed to score from distance on a mistake from South Korea keeper Yoon Young-geul.

Just before the half, Colombia’s Catalina Perez made an important save to preserve Colombia’s clean sheet. In the second half Colombia cruised to victory. It was the first time Colombia managed to win their opener at the Women’s World Cup. It’ll likely take just one more win for Colombia to make the knockout stage for the first time since 2015.

While they are underdogs here, they should be favored in the group stage closer vs. Morocco. Colombia’s previous World Cup scores vs. European opposition have been competitive. They lost 1-0 to Sweden in the 2011 group stage, defeated France 2-0 in 2015 and fell 2-1 to England at the same tournament.
