Nuggets vs Suns Game 4 Odds: Phoenix Small Favorites

Phoenix Looks to Even Up Series With Game 4 Win

The Nuggets vs Suns Game 4 betting odds have Phoenix as 3.5-point favorites and the total is back up to 227.5. The Suns will look to continue the pattern of the home team winning each game. Phoenix got its first win of the series with a 121-114 victory Friday night.

The Nuggets vs Suns Game 4 betting odds show another good-sized shift in the total. The total for Game 2 was 229 and it dropped all the down to 224.5 for Game 3. But after seeing 235 points on Friday, the total is back up to 227.5. It will be interesting to see how the Nuggets vs Suns matchup in Game 4 will affect the betting odds and the total for the game.

Even though the Suns allowed 114 points, it was the defensive that came up big. Phoenix held Denver to 44.3% shooting from the field. That’s the lowest the Nuggets have shot in the series. Denver still dominated on the glass, something Phoenix has to do a better job against.

The Phoenix Suns looked to have the game well in hand at halftime. But a 36-23 Denver advantage made it a two-point game entering the fourth quarter. The Suns scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to give them some breathing room. The Nuggets pulled within five points down the stretch, but could get no closer.

Nikola Jokic is going to get his points and rebounds and he had a big game with 30 points and 17 boards. Jamal Murray scored a team-high 32 points and Michael Porter added 21. But the Suns did a number on the rest of the players, who were a combined 12 for 35 from the field.

Devin Booker scored 47 to lead the Suns and Kevin Durant added 39 in a two-man shot. But the two also took 56 of the Suns’ 95 field goal attempts. Booker was the man the Suns wanted shooting, however, as he was 20 for 25 from the field. He also sank 5 of 8 3-point attempts. Durant was 12 for 31 from the field and 14 for 16 from the foul line.

Phoenix Bench Comes Up Big

One key for the Suns in Game 3 was the play of the bench. They may have scored just 22 points, but they combined for a +26 rating. The Denver bench players were a collective -37. When you can outscore the opposition while resting your starters, you’re going to win more often than not. The Suns needed the role players to pick things up. In Game 2’s 97-87 loss, the Phoenix bench was a collective -47 on 2 for 16 shooting.

Rested Nuggets Suffer Rare Loss

The Nuggets have been one of the best NBA teams on rest. Denver was 4-0 getting more than two days between games and 14-3 straight-up when getting more than one day between games. The Nuggets are still 12-5-1 ATS when getting more than a day between games after Friday’s loss. But the NBA game schedule has the teams playing Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. A Game 7 would be Sunday, May 14.

Teams Show Slight Over Tendencies in Sunday’s Situation

Seeing Game 3 go over the total isn’t a complete surprise. The Suns have gone 19-16-1 in totals when favored at home. The Nuggets are now 10-7 in totals when an away underdog. Denver is 6-3 in totals as an away underdog after a loss. Phoenix is 14-11-1 as a home favorite following a victory.

Handicapping Game 4

The Nuggets vs Suns Game 4 betting odds show the Nuggets don’t really need to make wholesale changes. If not for a monster effort by Booker, the Nuggets could easily be looking at a 3-0 advantage. Denver isn’t going to shut down Booker and Durant and the Nuggets know that. They do need to do a better job against the other players and take advantage when Durant or Booker are on the bench.

The Suns can’t allow Denver to have massive rebounding edges. Game 1 saw Denver with a 49-38 advantage and Denver had 10 more rebounds in Game 3. The Nuggets led 16-7 in offensive rebounds and are too good of a team to allow so many second chances to.

The Suns were favored by 4 points in Game 3, so the NBA spread tonight is pretty much what you would expect. So far this season, home favorites who won their previous game as a home favorite are 9-0 straight-up and 8-1 ATS. It’s definitely a small sample size. But it’s also hard not to take notice of.

This year’s playoffs have seen hot offensive teams carry that forward. When a team scores at least 120 points, the next game is 19-13-1 in totals the next time the team hits the court.

This should be an entertaining game and the trends point to the Suns and the over.
