Ferrari’s Blue SF-24 for Miami GP Is a Huge Disappointment

Scuderia Ferrari Revealed Their Highly Anticipated Blue Design for the Miami GP

Yar or Nay? 🏎️

Ferrari fans have been double-checking the F1 news lately. Why the double-check? Two big reasons! First, everyone’s buzzing about Lewis Hamilton joining the team next year. Second, Ferrari’s been dropping hints about a super cool special edition car for the Miami Grand Prix!

The design celebrates Ferrari’s 70-year North American legacy and the arrival of HP as their new title sponsor. The unveiling, however, left me – and a portion of the Tifosi faithful – a little underwhelmed.

A Splash of Blue, a Sea of Opinions

Don’t get me wrong, the concept of incorporating two shades of blue – Azzurro La Plata and Azzurro Dino – is a thoughtful nod to Ferrari’s history.

The hues themselves evoke a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the blue overalls worn by mechanics and even legendary drivers in the 1960s.

The design also cleverly references a specific element from that era, a design detail seen on the championship-winning 158 F1 car driven by John Surtees in 1964.

However, the execution of the SF24, which was recently revealed in F1 news, left me wanting more.

The large swaths of blue splashed across the car felt unbalanced, and the HP logos are not strategically positioned and there are too many of them throughout the car– almost like an afterthought hastily plastered on. The overall effect lacked the elegance and cohesiveness we’ve come to expect from Ferrari.

Some F1 rumors mention that this will not be the only special livery that we will see from Ferrari in the season, since the team is known for playing with its colors, they already did it in 2020, 2022, and 2023.

A Silver Lining: Driver Gear Steals the Show

Thankfully, the disappointment with the car’s livery wasn’t all-encompassing. The special edition race suits and caps for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. are a much stronger showing.

The shades of blue throughout the gear give that retro and sophisticated vibe of the Ferrari from the 60s or 70s and create a visually appealing and undoubtedly collectible set for Tifosi.

The Miami GP is always one of the most exciting stops on the F1 schedule and this one promises to be just as interesting, and while the jury’s still out on the SF24’s special livery, the driver gear offers a more satisfying tribute to Ferrari’s heritage.
