Washington Wizards Trending Upwards
As with any team in the NBA the Washington Wizards look like a completely different unit when they have their starters on the floor together. After playing without their starting backcourt of Monte Morris and Beal for large chunks of the past month both are back leading the way for this team once again.
Kristaps Porzingis is listed as questionable, but could return after missing the Suns game with non-COVID related illness.
Their 2-point loss at the Lakers was the first time their starting five had taken the floor together since November, 2nd when they ran out double-digit winners against the Philadelphia 76ers.
When Beal and Morris are on the floor together the Wizards own a +13.5 point differential per 100 possessions and their offense ranks in the 97th percentile for scoring. They also own a .613 effective field goal percentage, which ranks in the 99th percentile in the NBA for lineups that have played at least 100 possessions together.
Morale will certainly be on the up now that the starters are back and there’s a chance they catch Utah napping on their first game back home.
Utah Jazz Remain a Tough Out
Despite regressing from their impressive start to the NBA regular season the Utah Jazz have shown themselves to be a feisty outfit on a nightly basis.
One NBA player who epitomises their new-found identity is Sexton and his potential return will be a big boost for the team. While he’s not a player who will necessarily impact markets with his presence, his energy off the bench is the spark that this team needs.
Jazz coach Will Hardy has shown himself to be one of the shrewdest minds in the game and their offensive approach should create fireworks against a Washington team that doesn’t do a great job of defending the perimeter.
Almost 43% of Utah’s field goal attempts come from beyond the arc and over the past month they’ve shot at 37.1% from deep – ranking 9th in the league in 3-point efficiency. They’ve coupled that with being the number one team in the NBA in field goal percentage at the rim (73.2%).
Both offenses should have avenues to scoring in this one and that should set up for an entertaining game in Salt Lake City. The NBA betting trends will tell us that Washington is in a tough spot with their fourth straight game on the west coast; but things have begun to swing the other way this season where west coast teams flying back home flat.
Looking at the markets for this game, our money is on Washington to cover this inflated spread and the full game to go Over the current total.
