Will Kansas Remain Undefeated At Home?

The BYU vs Kansas Odds Have The Jayhawks Favored

We’ve got an exciting Top-25 matchup in the Big 12 coming up! The BYU Cougars will hit the road to face the Kansas Jayhawks in a massive showdown.

Getting road wins in the Big 12 this year has been hard. Therefore, Kansas is likely feeling good about this one.

The Jayhawks have won three of their last four games, including a road game against Oklahoma. The Jayhawks most recently knocked off Texas on their home floor, 86-67, which was impressive.

Meanwhile, BYU has lost two of its last three games. The Cougars fell on the road to Oklahoma State and Kansas State during that period. Those were two teams. BYU was statistically better than heading into the games.

But that’s how it is in the Big 12. Road wins are tough to come by.

Therefore, Kansas is a 6-point favorite (-105), with the total currently at 153. However, the Over is juiced to -115 at this time.

Let’s take a look at the BYU vs Kansas odds for this important Big 12 game.

BYU vs Kansas Odds & Trends

The BYU Cougars are 15-12 against the spread this season. However, they’ve only won two of eight games on the road this season. The Cougars have also hit the Under in one more game than the Under this year.

On the other hand, Kansas might be 21-6 on the season, but the Jayhawks have actually struggled against the spread, going 12-14 this season.

Like BYU, Kansas has earned the Under in one more game this season. The Jayhawks are also undefeated at home, going 14-0 at Allen Fieldhouse.

But while road wins have been challenging in the Big 12, Kansas earned one against BYU on November 26, 2019. This game was before BYU was a member of the Big 12 and was the only game ever played between the two NCAAB teams.

This will be the first meeting between Kansas and BYU in the Big 12.

Father, Spencer Johnson

The BYU senior guard, Spencer Johnson, announced he and his wife had a newborn on Thursday. Therefore, he was questionable for Saturday’s matchup against Kansas State. He played and scored 12 points with five rebounds and two assists after hitting 50% of his shots.

The Cougars didn’t win the road game, so Johnson and the Cougars are still without a win since Johnson became a father.

The win will come soon enough. We’ll see if BYU can pull off an upset against Kansas to help Johnson get a win as a father for the first time.

Kevin McCullar Out Versus BYU

Kevin McCullar has averaged 19 points per game to lead the Kansas Jayhawks in scoring this year. However, McCullar will be unable to go against BYU with a knee injury.

The Jayhawks seriously have a small margin of error without him. His situation isn’t good for the Jayhawks’ championship hopes. But they’ll have to take it daily and hope McCullar can get healthy in time for the Big 12 Championship.

McCullar didn’t play against Texas on Saturday, and the Jayhawks still won, 86-67. They’ll be fine on their home floor, but a neutral-floor matchup would be concerning for Kansas without McCullar.

No McCullar, No Problem

The Kansas Jayhawks haven’t lost at home this season. Even without McCullar last game, the Jayhawks earned a 19-point victory against a usually tricky Texas squad.

Kansas is more known for its defense. The Jayhawks have held teams to 33.2% from deep and 44.6% from inside the arc. The defense often plays better on their home floor as the crowd noise becomes more of a factor.

The Jayhawks don’t allow many offensive rebounds, giving up just 26.4% per game. They’ve also limited foul shots and have earned 17.4% of turnovers.

While BYU is good at limiting turnovers, the Cougars haven’t seen the foul line much. That’s not ideal, mainly since the Cougars have shot 73.4% from the foul line this year.

BYU is electric from inside the arc, hitting 58.3%. They’re also 35% from three, which is above average but not top-100 in college basketball. BYU would have more success shooting inside the arc. But they take a very high amount of threes per game.

On the other hand, the Jayhawks don’t earn many second-chance points due to a lack of offensive rebounds. They’re shooting 35.2% from three and have hit 56% from inside the arc. Like BYU, Kansas is just as dominant inside the arc.

The difference?

Kansas shoots much more inside the arc than outside. The Jayhawks get more quality looks and will drain more shots as a result.

BYU often doesn’t force many turnovers, and we’ll probably see Kansas get to the foul line more. The Cougars have still held teams to 30.8% from three and 49.6% from inside the arc. But that’s not good enough against a Kansas team that dominates from two.

When you watch college basketball tonight, make sure to put on this Big 12 showdown. The NCAAB betting odds all favor Kansas at home.

After reviewing the BYU vs Kansas odds, we agree. Back the Jayhawks at -6 (-115) on their home floor.
