San Jose State vs Colorado State Betting Trends

The San Jose State Spartans are 9-12-1 ATS, including 3-5-1 away from home. The Spartans have fared much better against the Over/Under, amassing a record of 15-7. Meanwhile, the Colorado State Rams are 12-10 ATS, including 6-6 at home. They’re also 10-12 against the Over/Under, but have gone Over the total in seven of their 12 home NCAAB games.

Be sure to remember these NCAAB trends when analyzing the San Jose State vs Colorado State odds.

Not So Mighty Spartans

San Jose State has lost six straight and nine of its last 10 games. As such, it sits at the bottom of the Mountain West Conference with a record of 8-15 (1-9). Its only league win came against Air Force on Jan. 13.

Because of that, the Spartans are likely to finish nowhere near the postseason. They’ll need to run the table in the NCAA conference tournament to make the Big Dance, and the odds of that happening appear slim to none.

San Jose State struggled against a weak non-conference schedule, and it hasn’t fared much better in Mountain West play. In fact, things have only gotten worse. The Spartans’ last five losses have all been by double digits. Their point differential for the season is minus-2.1.

The Spartans are 219th in KenPom while ranking 151st in adjusted offensive efficiency and 297th in adjusted defensive efficiency. Opponents are shooting 46.7% against them, 15th highest in the country.

Guards Myron Amey Jr. (15.1 PPG) and Alvaro Cardenas (13.0) lead San Jose State in scoring. One of the two has been the Spartans’ top scorer in 13 of the last 14 games.

San Jose State has failed to cover in each of its last five games and is just 9-12-1 ATS on the NCAA basketball season. At the same time, it’s gone Over the total at a 68.2% clip. Keep that in mind when assessing the San Jose State vs Colorado State odds.

Rams Rolling Along

Colorado State has lost a bit of steam after a torrid start. Even so, it remains among the top contenders in the Mountain West with a record of 18-5 (6-4). It’s responded to a two-game losing skid with three straight wins, including Tuesday’s 75-62 victory over Boise State in which it was favored by 5.5 points.

Colorado State has an impressive resume, highlighted by wins over No. 19 Creighton and Colorado that came during its 9-0 start. That helped the Rams net their highest AP ranking (No. 13) in program history. The Rams have also beaten No. 25 New Mexico and No. 24 San Diego State in Mountain West play.

The Rams are currently only a game out of first place, but a four-team logjam atop the NCAAB standings could complicate their push for a Mountain West regular-season title. Sensing that, oddsmakers have listed them +1500 to win the conference.

At the moment four college basketball teams have shorter odds, led by New Mexico (+210). The Rams are also +2500 to make the Final Four and a +12000 longshot to win the NCAA title.

Nevertheless, metrics are bullish on the Rams. They are No. 32 in the KenPom ratings while ranking 22nd in adjusted offensive efficiency and 73rd in adjusted defensive efficiency. Their 50.6% shooting percentage is sixth-best in the country.

Two-time All-Mountain West guard Isaiah Stevens leads Colorado State in scoring at 16.6 points per game. Stevens also has the country’s third-highest assist rate (7.3). Meanwhile, Colorado transfer Nique Clifford is averaging 13.5 points on 58.3% shooting to go with 6.9 rebounds. Altogether, four different Rams are averaging double figures in scoring.

Colorado State is 12-10 ATS, including 3-2 when favored by double digits. It’s also 12-1 OU at home, with its lone loss coming against Saint Mary’s on Dec. 9.

Handicapping the Game

Conference play is often unpredictable, but San Jose State’s inability to defend doesn’t bode well against a superior team like Colorado State. Led by Stevens, the Rams run one of the most efficient offenses in the country.

With no significant NCAAB injuries to worry about, the Rams are in good shape to make a run down the stretch of the regular season. The same can’t be said for San Jose State, a badly struggling team that’s merely playing out the string.

Simply put, this is a big mismatch.
