Quinn Ewers Stats: Texas Quarterback Off to Blistering Start
Sophomore Leads Longhorns Past Alabama

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers gave people a glimpse of his talent last season. Playing as a freshman, Ewers completed 172 of 296 passes for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was intercepted six times. Ewers is not a two-way threat at quarterback. In 2022, he was credited with 24 rushing attempts for (-52) yards. But after two games in 2023, the Quinn Ewers stats are already looking much better than last year.
Ewers Turns Up the Heat on Rice
The Quinn Ewers stats in Texas’ opening game of the season against Rice showed 19 completions in 30 attempts for 260 yards and three touchdowns. Ewers didn’t throw an interception. But he also showed a little more mobility than he did as a freshman. Ewers won’t be mistaken for Bryce Young, but he had eight carries for 12 yards and a touchdown. He was sacked three times, so he had five running plays, one of which was for 16 yards.
The Longhorns called off the dogs in the fourth quarter against Rice. Texas led 37-3 after three quarters and settled for a 37-10 victory. The Longhorns were favored by 35.5 points in the college football point spreads. So Texas backers would have liked to have seen a little more Ewers and a little less of backup Maalik Murphy.
Ewers Rolls Over Crimson Tide
Against Alabama, the Quinn Ewers stats were even more impressive, as he was 24 of 38 passing for 349 yards and three touchdowns against no interceptions. Ewers’ NCAAF stats were comparable to what they were against Rice in terms of completion percentage and yards per attempt. But there’s a world of difference between the Alabama defense and the Rice defense.
Ewers had three rushing attempts for 11 yards, which isn’t great, but it’s an improvement. The fact that Alabama didn’t have a single sack is a testament to the Texas offense line and Ewers and his decision making. The Longhorns were 7.5-point underdogs against the Tide and won outright 34-24. Texas never trailed by more than three points and was in charge the majority of the contest.
It’s going to be tough for Ewers to keep it up in future NCAAF games. But there’s no denying his hot start to the season has been a huge part of Texas’ early success and the team’s No. 4 ranking.
