Super Bowl Path: Detroit Lions Future Betting Odds

Will Detroit Be One of the Most Improved Teams as Odds Say?

The Detroit Lions may finally be a competitive team for this coming 2022 NFL season. The Detroit Lions’ future betting odds have the team more than doubling their three wins from last season. Even if the Lions are still expected to miss the playoffs, don’t expect Detroit to be a pushover like the last few years.

Dan Campbell has grown into a folk hero as a coach. The media loves him. The fans believe in him. And most importantly, the players listen to him. Campbell will inspire the team while Ben Johnson, promoted to offensive coordinator, will look to get most of the offense.

Detroit Lions Future Betting Odds to Win the Regular Season

ROTDETROIT LIONS – 2022-2023 NFL REGULAR SEASON WINSMONEYLINE
1901Over 6½ Wins-155
1902Under 6½ Wins+125

All 17 games must be played for wagers to have action unless the outcome has already been determined

As mentioned, the most conspicuous line here is Detroit’s 6.5-win total. Detroit won just three games last season and folks are betting odds on the “over”. Maybe it’s Campbell’s influence or the Lions’ strong finish last year, but Detroit is expected to do much better in 2022.

But despite the improvements, the Detroit Lions’ future betting odds still have the team as an also-ran in the other outrights. Part of the reason is because of who the signal caller is.

Jared Goff is Set Up For a Fruitful Season

Jared Goff

Jared Goff
Source ESPN
    • Passing Yards: 3800.5 (-125o)
    • Passing Touchdowns: 23.5
    • Interceptions: 11.5

A fare comparison for Jared Goff will be Jimmy Garoppolo – minus the constant injuries. But when it comes to playing the quarterback position, both are treated like they’re just stand-ins until a better one comes along.

But as it stands, Goff has a career passer rating of 91.5 and is a two-time Pro Bowler. Maybe he’s not a superstar, but Goff can get it done when you put him in a stable situation.

The Lions sort of has that. For one, the team’s offensive line is trending up. Penei Sewell will be better in his sophomore year. Frank Ragnow has been banged up at center and his health will determine how well the Lions can fortify its offense. Goff was under siege for good parts of the season, which is why he absorbed 35 sacks in 14 games.

The 27-year-old was also relegated to throwing short passes and checking down. He recorded a career-high 67.2 completion percentage but also had just 6.6 yards per attempt. Still, if the protection is there, Goff can throw for close to 4,000 yards and over 20 touchdowns. That’s where his totals are set at. Goff was on pace for 3,940 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2021.

If he stays healthy and the Lions’ new and improved offense shines, Goff’s totals should be more of a baseline. Goff has thrown for over 4,600 yards and 30+ touchdowns in his best season with the Rams. The Lions are unlikely to be that potent on offense.

But we have 17 games in the NFL season and with Detroit’s defense still being subpar, bank on Goff to get plenty of opportunities to air the rock.

Hockenson Poised for Breakout with New Offense

T.J. Hockenson

Source ESPN
    • Receptions: 70.5
    • Receiving Yards: 700.5
    • Receiving Touchdowns: 4.5 (-140o)

Hockenson may have been one of the most popular Lions thanks to fantasy football. As a tight end, Hockenson made the Pro Bowl in 2020 and was having another solid season until he got hurt late in 2021. But the 24-year-old was on fire setting career-highs in catch percent (72.6) and receptions per game (5.1). With his coach, Johnson, now running the offense, Hockenson is a breakout candidate.

Folks online have picked up on it too as they expect him to easily catch over four touchdowns this season. The NFL future odds also have him posting a career-high in receptions at 70+ and likely in receiving yards at 700+.

“Like I’ve said before, Ben’s my guy,” Hockenson said. “I mean, I’ve been with him since he was a quality control (coach) so it’s been fun to see him grow. He’s been through so many offenses and so many things and he’s seen me too. There’s a part of that where he’s seen what I can do.”

St. Brown is Lightning in a Bottle

Amon-Ra St. Brown

    • Receptions: 78.5 (-120o)
    • Receiving Yards: 850.5
    • Receiving Touchdowns: 5.5 (-105o)

Hockenson isn’t the only Lion poised to have a big year in 2022. Amon-Ra St. Brown had started hinting at that to finish the 2021 season. The fourth-round pick started heating up in December. In the final six games of the season, St. Brown was on poise for 1,586 receiving yards, 14 receiving touchdowns, and 144 receptions. That’s All-Pro level.

The Detroit Lions’ future betting odds have him producing less this year. Detroit signed D.J. Chark and drafted Jameson Williams. Johnson may run more plays for Hockenson. Whatever the case, St. Brown is expected to slow down from his brilliant end to last season. Still, you can only hold talented NFL players down for so long. St. Brown will find a way to be more involved in the offense.

Swiftly Into the Top Back

D’Andre Swift

D’Andre Swift
Source ESPN
    • Rushing Yards: 850.5
    • Rushing Touchdowns: 6.5

Entering his third season, Swift gets the chance to prove he’s worthy of being the team’s feature back. He had to split carries with Detroit’s running back committee into his first two seasons. But with only Jamaal Williams posing as a serious threat to his carries, it’s no wonder his rushing yards totals are set at where it is.

Swift had a modest 4.1 rushing yards per carrying in 2021. But late in the year, he gained more momentum. Swift averaged 5.65 yards per carrying in his final four games. He rushed for back-to-back 130+ yard games and looked impressive in his return from injury. He’s also a threat in the passing game thus giving him a long leash this upcoming season.
