NHL: New York Rangers vs Vegas Golden Knights Clash In The Desert

Rangers Start 4-Game Road Against Depleted Knights

The Rangers vs Knights Matchup Odds (28-13-2, 58 points) – show the Rangers heading to the road for the West Coast swing starting with the defending champions. The Vegas Golden Knights (25-14-5, 53 points) need to start winning games against the upper-echelon teams to get back in the discussion of legit Cup contenders. To do that they need to start getting healthy fast with the Vancouver Canucks opening up a 7-point lead in the Pacific Division. Oddsmakers have made the Rangers a -123 road favorite with a total of 6 (under -120). Puck drop is scheduled for 10:05 p.m. ET / 7:05 p.m. PT from T-Mobile Arena.

Rangers Need Shesterkin To Regain Consistent Form

For years, the New York Rangers have relied on their goaltending to bail them out of defensive lapses or a lack of scoring on a particular night. That burden usually fell on former Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin (18-10-0, 2.80 GA, .904 save %). Unfortunately, Shesterkin has been the one to require bailing out at times this season with a save percentage and goals against that are the worst of his five-year career.

Just when bettors think it is time to back the 28-year-old, he allows nine goals combined in two games against the St.Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks. That hasn’t been his worst stretch of games, that would be in early December when he allowed 15 combined goals in three games.

The good news he has allowed just three goals in his last two starts as they head into this clash with the Golden Knights. Despite their issues in net, which isn’t a massive issue right now, New York is the fifth most profitable team for bettors this season with 3.73 units won.

They are 22-12 as a favorite (+0.93 units), 8-6 (-0.20 units) as a road favorite and 13-9 overall. The Blue Shirts are the second choice (+900) behind the Colorado Avalanche (+850) in our recent Stanley Cup odds and seventh in our latest power ratings.

Golden Knights Keep Grinding It Out

The question in Vegas is just how long will Jack Eichel be out of the lineup after undergoing lower body surgery on Tuesday. We have had the chance to work closely with the Knights over the years and we are beginning to learn their language in addition to the fact we were there to watch Eichel come off the ice against the Boston Bruins on his knees.

Chandler Stephenson will be the team’s top-line center for the Knights who are already missing second-line center, William Karlsson, who is week to week. Let me tell you what week-to-week means in the land of chivalry, don’t expect him back any time soon. We expect the same from Eichel although some reports say that he’ll only miss six games because of the All-Star break.

That would be surprising to us. Don’t expect an accurate timeline on Eichel and his team-leading NHL stats (19G, 25A, 44 points) because, in our best guess, he took a puck off the boot hard enough to require surgery. Of course, this only adds to an injury that now features six players who played prominent roles in winning the franchise’s first Cup last year. That’s why the New York Rangers are favorites where very few teams are.

Thankfully for VGK, they’ve gone through this before (2022-23) and through that have developed depth with players who have played meaningful minutes. For bettors, the team that the Knights will put out there tonight will resemble one that should be playing in Henderson. Makes us wonder who’s on the ECHL roster in Savannah. Like the Rangers, the Golden Knights will be relying on their deep goaltending to push them through. We conclude our Rangers vs. Knights match-up odds preview with our official selection.

Rangers Too Fresh For Knights

The first game of a road trip is where we like to jump on teams. New York is having issues defensively but there is no comparing the two teams when it comes to injuries, the Rangers have none. That alone is a massive advantage to go with a lethal power play. Lay the price and take New York. All the best with your NHL picks and parlays tonight.
