NHL Preview: Oilers vs Golden Knights Scores and Odds Preview

The Edmonton Oilers 16-game win streak is put to the test immediately in Vegas

The Edmonton Oilers (29-15-1 59 points) get an immediate test coming off the break with a trip to Vegas to take on the Golden Knights (29-15-6, 64 points) who are clinging to second place in the Pacific Division. Five points may seem like a safe cushion for a few weeks, but the Oilers own five games in hand over the Knights making this a critical game for the home team. Things will get interesting if Edmonton takes home two points. Oddsmakers have made Edmonton a -140 favorite with a total of 6.5 (under -125). The puck is set to drop from T-Mobile Arena at 10:05 p.m. ET / 7:05 p.m. PT. This should be one of the most entertaining NHL scores of the night, so let’s kick off our Oilers vs Knights scores and odds preview with a closer look at the Edmonton Oilers.

Edmonton One Game Shy Of Win Record

It doesn’t feel like the Edmonton Oilers have been this dominant, but with a win in Vegas, the Oilers will tie the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most wins straight in NHL history with 17. With the Anaheim Ducks to follow on the ninth of February, the Golden Knights are the last remaining roadblock between Edmonton and history. It’s not the first time Vegas stood between the Oilers and a significant goal. On their way to the Stanley Cup in 2023, the Knights handed Edmonton a 6-game dismissal from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Oilers got a measure of revenge in their first meeting this season with a 5-4 win in a shootout at home. In addition to the win streak, it should be noted that Edmonton cashed ten straight under tickets. After Kris Knoblauch took over for Jay Woodcroft, the Oilers are 26-6. To give you an idea of how deep of a hole Edmonton dug for themselves to start the season, their NHL betting stats show their 16th win in their current streak just put the team in the black for bettors with 0.49 units won.

Vegas Gets A Key Reinforcement

When the Vegas franchise was born, very few could anticipate the impact that William Karlsson would make on the new franchise, but 137 goals later, his absence is massive when the 31-year-old is out of the line, as he has been since January 1st.

Karlsson is expected back for this critical showdown with Edmonton, chipping away at the Vegas injury report that now has defenseman Shea Theodore on the clock after being scheduled for a return sometime in mid-February, followed by Jack Eichel, who could come back in 3-4 weeks. Until then, Vegas will do what it does best: use its organizational depth to keep the organization above water in a place where there’s very little.

Karlsson returned to practice Sunday to a team that went on a small 6-2-1 run to end the first half while scoring 27 goals in that span. Tobias Bjornfot also returned to practice to potentially add to the Knights depth. Like Edmonton, VGK is barely in the black for the season with 0.83 units won, but with the team health improving, they may be a solid wager heading toward the deadline.

Totals Streak To Continue

As much as some other games will be a score fest coming out of the break, we think this will be one of the few that will be a defensive battle from the drop of the puck. There is still plenty of hockey to be played, but both teams are fully aware of what’s at stake. Regardless, that under streak that Edmonton is on is almost as impressive as their 16-game streak. Bet on moneyline sports is so much about riding out streak, and we have two goaltenders that can easily carry a low-scoring game deep into the third.

Adin Hill was terrific in his last two outings against the NY Rangers and islanders, allowing four goals in both wins. Oiler goaltending, led by Stuart Skinner, has allowed a total of five goals in their last five games. With both teams’ NHL playoff odds low on the board, we could be looking at a hors d’oeuvre to another postseason rematch. We’re betting this game goes under the total. That does it for our Oilers vs. Knights scores and odds preview; all the best with your wagers on Tuesday.
