Serie A Top Four Hopefuls Face Off

Lazio Climbing up Serie A Table

Last weekend, both Lazio and Napoli flew to Saudi Arabia to participate in the Supercoppa Italiana. While Lazio fell 3-0 in the Semifinal to Inter Milan, Napoli lost 1-0 to the Nerazzurri in the final. This Sunday, both teams return to action in Serie A as Lazio host the defending champions. Lazio are on a four-game winning streak in Serie A heading into the weekend. We’ll take a look at their chances to continue their run as we check out the Lazio vs Napoli soccer odds.

Head-to-Head

The Serie A scores show that Lazio has lost their last two home matches vs. Napoli. Last season, Napoli took down the Biancocelesti 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico. However, Lazio have won the last two meetings overall, which includes a 2-1 victory in Naples back in September. Luis Alberto and Daichi Kamada got on the scoresheet for the visitors. The Lazio vs Napoli soccer odds priced Lazio as +430 underdogs for the match. Bettors should note that Napoli has won four of the last six meetings.

Lazio Outclassed by Inter Milan

Inter Milan completely outclassed Lazio in their Supercoppa Italiana Semifinal match last Friday. Inter won 3-0 and hit the crossbar multiple times as they advanced to the final. Lazio didn’t manage to put a single shot on target in the match and it broke the Biancocelesti’s five-game winning streak, in all competitions. Lazio head back to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, where they’ve lost just twice in 15 matches overall this season.

Despite their loss in the Supercoppa Italiana, Lazio have won their last four matches in Serie A. They’re just one point outside of the top four at the moment but the Serie A odds price Lazio at just +400 to qualify for the Champions League. The goals haven’t exactly been flowing for the Roman club, as they’ve scored just 1.2 Serie A goals per game. No Lazio player has reached the five-goal mark yet this season but Ciro Immobile leads the team with five league goals.

However, Immobile is out for Sunday’s match due to a suspension. That means Maurizio Sarri could call on Taty Castellanos to lead the line. Winger Mattia Zaccagni, who has scored three goals in Serie A this season, is also suspended due to yellow card accumulation. Players like Luis Alberto, Pedro, and Felipe Anderson may need to step up for the Biancocelesti on Sunday.

Napoli Struggling to Defend Title

Napoli held Inter Milan scoreless for 90 minutes in Monday’s Supercoppa Italiana final but couldn’t get the job done. Giovanni Simeone picked up a red card in the 60th minute of the match and ten-man Napoli conceded in stoppage time. Lautaro Martinez won the match for Inter but Napoli did put up quite the fight.

The Partenopei have been active in the transfer market since Eljif Elmas departed for RB Leipzig. Napoli brought in left-back Pasquale Mazzocchi from Salernitana and just signed winger Cyril Ngonge from Hellas Verona. They also signed attacking midfielder Hamed Traore on loan from Bournemouth.

Clearly, Napoli aren’t happy with their position in Serie A. The defending champions are in ninth place but they are just three points outside of the top four. Currently, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is first in the Serie A stats with 66 total shots but he’s found the net just five times this season. Victor Osimhen has scored seven times but he’s away at the Africa Cup of Nations, along with Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa. Alex Meret, Natan, and Mathias Olivera are injured, while Jens Cajuste and Kvaratskhelia are out suspended.

Match Analysis & Odds

The away team has won the last four matches of this fixture and Napoli have performed better away from home this season. Napoli are 4-2-4 at home in Serie A this season and 5-2-3 on the road. However, they’ve lost their last four road matches, in all competitions and failed to score in their last three.

Plus, Napoli has a lot less offensive firepower with Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia out. The Lazio vs Napoli soccer odds price the Biancocelesti as +130 home favorites as they go for a fifth straight Serie A win. Meanwhile, Napoli is +240 underdogs but they have scored at least two goals in five of their last six games vs. Lazio. A draw also sits at +225 odds for this one.

Lazio pk, -0.5 displays -105 odds, while Napoli pk, +0.5 comes in at -115. With Kvara and Osimhen out for Napoli, expect Matteo Politano, Simeone, and Giacomo Raspadori to play roles here. With key goal scoring threats out on both sides, under 2, 2.5 goals are priced at -120 odds for Sunday’s Serie A match.
