Sports Betting in TX?

In a bold move that could reshape the landscape of Texas entertainment, Las Vegas Sands, the company that recently acquired a controlling share of the Dallas Mavericks, has set its sights on legalizing casino gambling in the Lone Star State according to several betting news sources.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

Backed by the Texas Destination Resort Alliance, Las Vegas Sands aims to introduce a range of luxury offerings, including resorts, entertainment venues, and fine dining establishments, by advocating for the expansion of casino-style gambling in Texas.

This effort builds upon the establishment of the Texas Sands political action committee (PAC) in 2022, signaling the company’s determination to alter Texas’ stance on casino betting and hopefully online gambling too.

Key Players Join the Movement

Las Vegas Sands isn’t alone in its quest. The support of influential entities like the Dallas Cowboys and the Chickasaw Nation adds significant weight to the campaign.

With the Chickasaw Nation already operating the Winstar Casino in neighboring Oklahoma and owning Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, their endorsement of casino resorts in Texas carries considerable influence.

Additionally, the impending launch of the Choctaw Landing Casino and Resort in Oklahoma underscores the growing momentum behind the discussion on gambling legislation in Texas.

Former Governor Rick Perry has also expressed his ongoing support for Texas sports betting legislation, emphasizing that the people of Texas should have the chance to decide whether or not to legalize betting in the Lone Star State.

Legislative Hurdles and Future Prospects

While the movement for legalized gambling in Texas gains momentum, significant legislative hurdles remain. Changing the state constitution to permit gambling requires two-thirds approval from both the House and Senate, followed by endorsement from Texas voters in an election.

State Representative Charlie Geren’s introduction of HJR 97 last year laid the groundwork for potential constitutional amendments, but securing broad-based support remains a challenge.

As the state gears up for the upcoming 89th Legislature, proponents of legalized gambling are prepared for a renewed push to sway lawmakers and garner public support.

With the backing of influential stakeholders and growing public interest in betting online and other forms of gambling, the prospects for legalized betting in Texas are poised to remain a hot topic in the months to come.
