Understanding The R&L Carriers Odds
Using the 2021 New Orleans Bowl as an example: that bowl was between 16th-ranked Louisiana and the Marshall Thundering Herd, with the moneyline listing the Ragin’ Cajuns as -180 favorites. Marshall was listed as the underdog at +155. For a bettor to win $100 on their wager, they would have to risk $180 if picking Louisiana to win. However, a $100 bet on Marshall would pay $155 if the Herd won the game.
Louisiana was a four-point favorite on the spread. A bet on them to win the game by five or more points would’ve paid the same on the spread as a wager on Marshall to win the game or lose by three points or less. Spread betting odds in college football are usually at -110 on both sides of the line.
The over/under on the New Orleans Bowl was 55.5 points, which meant the combined total score between both NCAAF teams would need to be 56 or higher for a wager on the over to win. A total score of 55 points or less would be required for the under to win. There was no push possible for this over/under of 55.5.
Louisiana won the 2021 New Orleans Bowl 36-21. Wagers on the Ragin’ Cajuns would’ve been winners, and bets on Marshall would have settled as a loss. Also, the total final score of 57 points would have meant a bet on a total of more than 55.5 points was the winning bet on the over/under.
