Lewandowski Returns to Munich

Bayern Munich vs Barcelona Betting Odds: Former Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski will face Bayern for the first time as a member of Barcelona on Tuesday.

Bayern host Barcelona in what’s possibly the best game of the UEFA Champions League group stage. Barça is in excellent form, in no small part due to Lewandowski’s goal-scoring exploits.

We’ll see if FCB has a chance to ride the momentum as we review the Bayern Munich vs Barcelona betting odds.

Head-to-Head

Bayern Munich and Barcelona were in the same group in the 2021 UEFA Champions League as well. Bayern won both meetings 3-0 last year as Robert Lewandowski scored a brace at the Camp Nou. The Bavarians comfortably covered the Champions League spreads in both matches.

Bayern Munich has won four consecutive meetings, including the famous 8-2 win in the 2020 UCL quarter-finals. The Bavarians have won six of the seven meetings in the last decade, outscoring Barcelona 24-7 during that span.

Three Straight Bundesliga Draws for Bayern

  • Last Match: 2-2 D vs VfB Stuttgart
  • Injuries and Suspensions: F Kingsley Coman (Out)

Bayern Munich kicked off their Champions League campaign with a tidy 2-0 away win over Inter Milan last week. Leroy Sane opened up the scoring in the first half, as Bayern got a second on an Inter Milan own goal. Bayern Munich’s next game in the UCL will be another difficult one but they’re no stranger to defeating Barcelona.

What’s more concerning is Bayern’s league form. They’ve drawn each of their last three matches in the Bundesliga, to Borussia Monchengladbach, Union Berlin, and Stuttgart.

Bayern was minutes away from defeating Stuttgart on Saturday but conceded a late penalty. Serhou Guirassy’s penalty conversion doomed Bayern to a third straight Bundesliga draw for the first time since 2009-10.

Yet, there were some notable omissions from the lineup on Saturday. Kingsley Coman was out injured and is expected to miss at least a few weeks with a hamstring issue. Attackers Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane seem to have been rested in preparation for Tuesday’s match.

Barcelona Looking Nearly Unstoppable

  • Last Match: 4-0 W at Cadiz
  • Injuries and Suspensions: M Sergi Roberto (Day-to-Day)

Around this time last season, Barcelona were consistently dropping points in matches they should’ve won. They were also in the thick of a financial crisis which they finally seem to have emerged from.

Now, they’ve got Robert Lewandowski up top and a bunch of other new signings to compliment him. New look Barça appears to be one of the teams to beat in the Champions League, let alone La Liga.

FCB opened up their 2022-23 Champions League campaign with a huge 5-1 win over Viktoria Plzen. In true Lewandowski fashion, the Polish striker scored a hat trick in his first UCL match with Barcelona. Lewandowski made it five consecutive games with a goal as Barcelona defeated Cadiz 4-0 on Saturday.

Over the last few weeks, Barcelona’s opponents haven’t figured out how to contain them. Barça has scored at least three goals in each of their last five matches in all competitions. Since drawing 0-0 in their season opener vs Rayo Vallecano, they’ve also won each of their last five matches in all competitions.

Unlike last season, Barcelona is expected to score vs Bayern Munich. The Bayern Munich vs Barcelona betting odds price both teams to score at -250.

Odds & Preview

The Bayern Munich vs Barcelona betting odds is giving Barcelona a fair amount of respect, given their head-to-head struggles. Bayern enters the match as -125 home favorites and has won their last 11 home group stage matches in the Champions League. It’s expected to be a close one, though, as Bayern are just ½-goal favorites.

Barcelona is sitting at +265 odds to end Bayern’s streak and pick up a first win against them since the 2015 Champions League semifinals.

None of the last seven meetings between these two sides have finished in a draw. Bettors can take a chance on a draw at +350 odds and maybe it’s not the worst idea in the world given Bayern’s last few matches.

Ostensibly, Bayern Munich, and coach Julian Nagelsmann, are very familiar with the threat that Robert Lewandowski poses. Lewandowski scored 344 goals and won eight consecutive Bundesliga titles during his time in Munich.

Expect a well-defined game plan to limit his impact, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be completely contained. Expect a highly entertaining back-and-forth match, with both teams showing off their attacking prowess.

Along with Lewandowski, Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele have been in good form for Barcelona. Bayern will miss Coman but have other options, like the 17-year-old player Matthys Tel, who scored vs Stuttgart.

The over/under goals total stands at 3½ in what should be an absolutely electric match. Be sure and dial in for our preview of the Bayern Munich next game.
