Borussia Dortmund is just one win away from surviving the Champions League “Group of Death”. With two matches remaining, Dortmund leads Group F with seven points and they head to the San Siro to take on AC Milan on Tuesday. Milan are two points behind Dortmund and this is as close to a must-win as it gets for the Rossoneri. Only two UCL scores this season have been 0-0. The first was AC Milan’s opener vs. Newcastle and the second was their next match at Borussia Dortmund. It was the first AC Milan vs Dortmund H2H meeting since 2003. In the 2002-03 Champions League, each side won the road fixture, 1-0. All time, Milan leads the series 3-2, and two matches have finished in draws.
AC Milan Rounding Back into Form
After a four-game winless run, AC Milan have now won two of their last three matches. On Saturday, they got an important 1-0 win over Fiorentina in Serie A. Left back Theo Hernandez both won and converted a penalty for the game’s only goal. Mike Maignan made a crucial save with his face just before the full-time whistle to seal the win for the Rossoneri.
Forward Francesco Camarda also made history as Serie A’s youngest-ever player as the 15-year old made a substitute appearance. Striker Olivier Giroud and winger Rafael Leao missed Saturday’s match but Giroud will return on Wednesday. Leao, along with fellow forward Noah Okafor, are out with thigh injuries for the time being.
Milan are in third place in the Group F Champions League standings, just two points behind Borussia Dortmund. So, the Rossoneri will be in a position to make the knockout stage if they’re able to pick up all three points. However, Stefano Pioli will also have to contend with injuries to Pierre Kalulu, Simon Kjaer, and Ismael Bennacer. Leao is undoubtedly the biggest absence and Samuel Chukwueze will try to fill his shoes. While Milan went scoreless in their first three Champions League games, they defeated PSG 2-1 in their last match.
Dortmund Complete Comeback
No team has conceded fewer goals than Borussia Dortmund in this season’s Champions League. Edin Terzic’s side kicked off with a 2-0 loss to PSG but has been a good pick for Champions League betting since. They’ve kept three straight clean sheets and managed to complete the double over Newcastle.
Over the weekend, Dortmund managed to take down Borussia Monchengladbach 4-2 after falling behind 2-0. Marcel Sabitzer kicked off the Dortmund comeback with a half volley from a Julian Brandt cross. Niclas Fullkrug scored on another half volley as Dortmund tied things up and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens put them ahead just before halftime.
As Gladbach’s keeper went up for a late corner, Donyell Malen sealed the match on a late breakaway. The win broke Dortmund’s three-match winless streak in the Bundesliga. All of Dortmund’s key players are available for Wednesday’s match and midfielder Julian Brandt has been their most productive player this season. Gregor Kobel has also been superb in goal.

Borussia Dortmund will be well aware of the fact that they can seal a knockout stage berth with a victory here. However, winning at the San Siro is no small feat and a Milan loss could eliminate them. Milan hasn’t generated much offense in the Champions League so far but they did manage a 2-1 victory over PSG when it counted most.
Now, the AC Milan vs Dortmund H2H odds list the hosts as +105 favorites heading into Wednesday’s match. No Leao will hurt but Giroud has scored a bunch of important Champions League goals in his illustrious career. He also scored the winner vs. PSG. With both teams tough to score against, over and under 2.5 goals come in at -110 odds.
Dortmund are +280 underdogs for this one but they’re a top team that should be able to hang with anybody. Bettors can also find a draw at +255 as neither team would be eliminated just yet in that event.
