UCL: RB Salzburg vs. Inter Milan Preview, Odds
Salzburg at Risk of Crashing Out of UCL
Inter Look to Extend Winning Streak
RB Salzburg would crash out of the Champions League with a loss to Inter Milan on Wednesday and Real Sociedad win over Benfica. So, expect the hosts to fight for their lives on Matchday 4 of the UCL group stage. The ten-time defending Austrian Bundesliga champions are full of young talent but Inter certainly have Champions League experience. The Nerazzurri made the final last season and are looking strong. Our RB Salzburg vs Inter Milan preview will check out the odds ahead of Wednesday’s match. Inter are looking to extend their winning streak to five games, in all competitions.
Head-to-Head
A few weeks ago, Inter Milan retained their perfect all-time record vs RB Salzburg. As -400 soccer betting favorites, the Nerazzurri came away with a 2-1 result and all three points. Alexis Sanchez and Hakan Calhanoglu found the net for Inter, while Oscar Gloukh got on the scoresheet for Salzburg. Inter also took on RB Salzburg in the 1994 UEFA Cup final and the Nerazzurri won both legs by 1-0 scorelines.
Salzburg Make Up for Lack of Experience With Talent
RB Salzburg are ten-time defending Austrian Bundesliga champions and they’re off to another strong start this season. They’re 9-2-2 through 13 games and picked up a 2-0 win at WSG Tirol over the weekend. Karim Konate scored both of Salzburg’s goals in the match and they were both well-taken finishes. Salzburg, although they consistently sell their best UCL players, are well known for cultivating young talent.
This UCL season, RB Salzburg vs Inter Milan previews note that some of RB’s key players are also some of their youngest. Konate is only 19 and he’s already scored in double figures this season. The defensive duo of Strahinja Pavlovic and Amar Dedic are 22 and 21, respectively. Meanwhile, Roko Simic and Oscar Gloukh have been excellent options up top and are 20 and 19. Gloukh, an Israeli international, has scored two of Salzburg’s three Champions League goals so far.
Of Salzburg’s 11 players who have logged the most minutes this season, only goalkeeper Alexander Schlager is over 22 years old. Despite their lack of experience, Salzburg did get a 2-0 win over Benfica in their Champions League opener. Since then, they lost 2-0 to Real Sociedad and 2-1 to Inter at the San Siro. Maurits Kjaergaard and Aleksa Terzic figure to miss this Champions League match for Salzburg.
Inter Have Grand Ambitions
Inter Milan have been Serie A’s most dominant team so far this season and haven’t done half bad in the Champions League. The Nerazzurri are first in the Serie A standings, with a 9-1-1 record. Lautaro Martinez is having the season of his life, with 12 Serie A goals in 11 appearances.Over the weekend, Martinez also scored in Inter Milan’s 2-1 win in Bergamo vs Atalanta.
Simone Inzaghi has established himself as one of the best coaches in Europe. He led Inter to the UCL final last season but not many Champions League predictions have them returning. Inter currently display just +2500 odds to win the Champions League and seven other UCL teams show shorter odds. The Nerazzurri have a deep squad and new additions have made big impacts so far.
Marcus Thuram leads Serie A in assists, while goalkeeper Yann Sommer has already kept seven league shutouts. Benjamin Pavard has also made a bunch of starts in defense but will miss time with a knee injury. Meanwhile, Davide Frattesi has had his moments in a midfield that also includes Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Nicolo Barella. With a win here, Inter will clinch knockout stage qualification and there’s no reason they can’t make another deep run.
Match Analysis & Odds
RB Salzburg vs Inter Milan Previews note that the Nerazzurri are -170 favorites despite playing on the road on Wednesday. Salzburg also know that a loss will likely eliminate them from knockout stage contention. Still, they are +440 home underdogs and they did lose 2-0 at Red Bull Arena to Real Sociedad last month.
Inter will look to attack through their wingbacks Federico Dimarco and Denzel Dumfries and could cause problems for Salzburg’s young defense. RB Salzburg +1 does come in at -120 odds, though, while Inter -1 is priced at even UCL odds.
Bettors can take a draw at +330 odds and it wouldn’t be a terrible result for Inter. Should the Nerazzurri draw, they’ll need just one win to advance to the knockout stage. For Wednesday’s match, under 2.5, 3 goals sit at -115 odds.
