Champions League: PSG vs Dortmund Odds

Group of Death Matchup

Mbappe in Stellar Form

Two European powerhouses will meet on Tuesday to kick off their Champions League campaigns as PSG host Borussia Dortmund. The teams are in one of the most challenging UCL groups in recent memory, with AC Milan and Newcastle United. With no easy games in the Group of Death, both teams will want to kick off their campaigns with all three points. Even though PSG lost on Friday, Kylian Mbappe scored twice and is in excellent form heading into this one. In one of the games of the week, we’ll preview the PSG vs Dortmund odds.

PSG vs Borussia Dortmund

Date, time:
Stadium: Parc des Princes, Paris, France

Head-to-Head

Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund last met in the 2019-2020 Champions League round of 16. In the first leg, Erling Haaland scored twice as Dortmund won 2-1. PSG turned things around in the second leg, winning 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Those are the only two UCL games they’ve played against each other previously. They also met in the 2010-11 Europa League group stage, and both matches finished in a draw. The road team has never won in this fixture.

Mbappe Main Threat for PSG

Paris Saint-Germain fell for the first time this season when they took on Nice last Friday. Terem Moffi somehow managed to outshine Kylian Mbappe as the Nice forward scored twice and assisted in Nice’s 3-2 win. Mbappe’s giveaway led to Nice’s first goal, but the French livewire managed to score both of PSG’s goals in the loss.

Mbappe has scored seven goals in just four appearances this season and he’ll be a handful for Dortmund’s defense on Tuesday. Mbappe finished third last season in the Champions League stats, with seven goals in the competition. PSG completely revamped their frontline over the Summer, and there hasn’t been much time for them to build chemistry. Especially since they also have a new coach this season, in Luis Enrique.

Randal Kolo Muani only made his first appearance for PSG on Friday and managed to pick up an assist in the 27 minutes he played. He, Goncalo Ramos, Lee Kang-in, Ousmane Dembele and Marco Asensio are all new additions. While Asensio and Kang-in are injured, Ramos, Dembele and Kolo Muani are all in contention to start alongside Mbappe on Tuesday.

Currently, the PSG vs Dortmund odds price the hosts as -135 favorites. Along with Kang-in and Asensio, Fabian Ruiz and Nuno Mendes are set to miss out on this match.

Dortmund Not to be Underestimated

Borussia Dortmund managed to pull off a comeback at SC Freiburg on Saturday. After center back Mats Hummels scored to put visitors Dortmund ahead, Freiburg responded with two goals from set pieces before the half. Donyell Malen got the equalizer for Dortmund and Hummels later scored his second goal of the match to put BVB ahead. Captain Marco Reus added a late insurance goal as Dortmund improved to 2-2-0 in the Bundesliga.

With the first match on the UCL schedule upcoming, Dortmund are going for a fifth knockout stage appearance in the last six seasons. While they’ve lost important players like Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland in recent seasons, Dortmund still have talent on their roster.

Donyell Malen has already scored three times this season, and Julian Brandt is Dortmund’s creative force in midfield. Mats Hummels and Marco Reus also have plenty of Champions League experience. Plus, Sebastien Haller scored 11 UCL goals in just seven appearances in 2021-22 for Ajax. Dortmund have been a bit inconsistent recently but they’re still capable of getting results.

Match Analysis & Odds

For Tuesday’s Group F opener, hosts Paris Saint-Germain are favorites. The PSG vs Dortmund odds price the Parisians at -135, while Dortmund are +335 underdogs. In three career starts vs. Borussia Dortmund, Kylian Mbappe has scored three goals. He’ll be the focus of Dortmund’s defensive gameplan but Marius Wolf or Julian Ryerson will have their hands full.

Both teams should have opportunities to score in what could become a wide open match. Over and under three goals display -110 odds for the match as there’s attacking talent on both sides. PSG -0.5, -1 shows -110 odds, and Dortmund +0.5, +1 is priced at the same odds.

PSG will only be thinking about all three points but a draw sits at +300 odds for this one. The Parisians have averaged three goals per game in their last three matches. Dortmund have also scored six goals in their last two matches, and both teams to score will be a popular bet for this one. Punters can take that bet at -165 odds for Tuesday’s UCL clash.
