This is only the second-ever match between Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid. These sides met in the 2010 UEFA Super Cup final, which Atletico won 2-0 with goals from Sergio Aguero and Jose Antonio Reyes. Inter Milan has only won one of their last ten matches vs. Spanish teams. Meanwhile, Atletico are 4-3-3 in their last 10 games vs. Italian opposition.

Inter Milan looks well on their way to winning the Serie A title, as Friday’s win over Salernitana gave the Nerazzurri a ten point lead. Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram reached 20 and 10 Serie A goals for the season in the match, respectively. Denzel Dumfries and Marko Arnautovic also got on the scoresheet in the 4-0 win. The win was Inter Milan’s 20th in 24 Serie A matches so far.

Marcos Llorente usually plays as a right back or midfielder for Atletico Madrid. On Saturday, Diego Simeone decided to let Llorente try his hand at striker and the results were excellent. Llorente scored a first half brace for Atletico in their 5-0 win over Las Palmas, who previously hadn’t conceded more than two goals in a match all season. Angel Correa also scored a second half brace and Memphis Depay added a fifth for Atletico.
Heading into Tuesday’s match, it was an excellent way for Atletico Madrid to bounce back from consecutive losses. They also did it with key man Antoine Griezmann resting in preparation for the match vs. Inter. There was another notable absentee, Alvaro Morata, who was joint-leader in the Champions League group stage, with five goals. Morata was out due to a sprained knee and it’s unclear whether he’ll play on Tuesday. However, in an important piece of UCL betting news, he reportedly joined up with his teammates on Sunday in preparation for the match.
If Morata doesn’t start, Atletico do have options like Correa and Depay but his absence would sting nonetheless. While Morata was out, defender Jose Gimenez did return to action on Saturday. Atletico found the net 17 times in just six games and both Morata and Griezmann got on the scoresheet five times. While Morata is questionable, Griezmann could pose some problems for Inter’s defense. Their appearance in last year’s Champions League final took a few by surprise but they’re underdogs no longer.
