AEW World Championship Odds: Unveiling Front-Runners, Dark Horses, Potential Contenders

Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Massive Favorite to Retain World Championship Belt

Saturday, the AEW World Championship belt will be on the line at the ‘Double or Nothing’ promotion at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Card starts at 8:00 pm ET/ 5:00 pm PT. AEW World Championship odds show MJF as a huge -4000 favorite to retain.

He’ll face the “Four Pillars of AEW”, Darby Allin (+500), Sammy Guevara (+600), and ‘Jungle Boy” Jack Perry (+800). It’s obvious that MJF will retain but for betting purposes let’s look at the other competitors to determine if there is any value in betting this match or if it’s best to stay away.

AEW Hopes MJF Can Be a Challenge to Reigns, WWE

For a match that doesn’t have pillaged WWE stars involved, AEW could have set it up a little better. In fact, that could be said for the entire card that just started to present itself last Wednesday on Dynamite. Unfortunately, its main attraction doesn’t have the must-watch appeal for fans or bettors with MJF being a giant favorite to retain.

The battle of the “four pillars” will be nothing more than a formality with MJF retaining his belt. Even though MJF has only had the belt since November after beating then champion Jon Moxley with the help of William Regal’s brass knuckles. Nothing will ever be clean when beating one of the names that helped put AEW on the map.

MJF became the youngest AEW champion in its four-year existence. Don’t think for a second that AEW hasn’t noticed what the WWE has done with Roman Reigns’ long title run, and how it has become the main storyline for the company. MJF signed a 5-year deal back in 2019, but his journey has been anything but smooth.

At this same event last year, MJF failed to show up at a fan event and later was cut off quicker than you can count to three after a live promo was cut off after MJF called AEW Owner Tony Khan a “**** mark”.

The point is, there will be a day when AEW has to make a decision on MJF, meaning he will have to lose the belt at some point if AEW doesn’t decide to renew his contract next year. In the meantime, expect MJF to retain until Khan can find a replacement to carry the load.

Finally, AEW Has Their Own Stars, Kind Of

Much of the AEW schedule from day one has featured former WWE stars. The company leaned on what Vince McMahon built while trying to build their own headliners. In a way, it was brilliant work by Khan and Shahid Khan. Keep the company afloat with massive WWE stars like Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley while developing a stable of wrestlers that could be the pillars or “four pillars” of the company.

The AEW World Championship betting odds features four competitors that were molded into AEW stars even though there is a speck of WWE in the background. MJF was featured as one of the competitors on WWE’s ‘Tough Enough’ in 2015. Darby Allin has paid his dues to be in a position to compete for a title but likely isn’t what the company is looking for in a champion with Reigns being a strong WWE champion.

Remember, this is about competition, so yes, it does matter what the McMahon family are doing. AEW has wanted to get Allin over with matches against Cody and Jericho in 2019, but the plan was never to put Allin over.

Sammy Guevara, who was trained by former WWE and WCW star Booker T, has held the TNT championship three times, he might be a more likely winner for the title if you must bet someone other than MJF.

The 29-year-old has been in with Jericho since the ‘Inner Circle’ days. ‘Double or Nothing’ was the first event Guevara competed in after signing in February of 2019.

Then there’s ‘Jungle Boy”. Jack Perry has an incredible back story that starts with him being the son of the late Luke Perry who was best friends with former wrestler and now full-time actor David Arquette, but the 5-10, 167 pound, Los Angeles native isn’t ready to be what AEW needs to gain national attention away the competitions storylines, which is why he’s the longest shot on the board at +800

In Case You haven’t Guessed

The AEW Championship odds tell the entire story. Despite all the problems MJF has caused the promotion, we think he’s settled into a role that both parties are comfortable with which is why he’s the easy betting choice to retain the AEW World Championship.
