It was the first time Trinidad lost to Jamaica since 2017 and the Soca Warriors are now in third place in Group A as a result. Trinidad and Tobago are one point behind both the USA and Jamaica in the Gold Cup 2023 standings with an even goal difference. They’ll very likely need to win here to stay alive, as Jamaica are heavy favorites vs. Saint Kitts and Nevis.
It was entirely too easy for Jamaica to break down the Trinidad and Tobago backline on Wednesday. The Reggae Boyz led 3-0 within 30 minutes and had a ton of clear cut chances.
It could’ve easily been four or five and Leon Bailey missed an open net for Jamaica in the second half. Trinidad’s goal was impressive in its execution as Levi Garcia beat his man and delivered a pass that Andre Rampersad flicked into the net.
Those moments were few and far between for Trinidad and Tobago, who scored with their only shot on target. It’ll be an uphill battle for the Soca Warriors to make the knockout stage, which they haven’t done since 2015. At the very least, Trinidad got their first win in the Gold Cup since 2015 at this edition of the tournament.
