Euro 2024 Qualifier: Austria vs Sweden Odds

Austria in Group F Lead

First Meeting Since 2018

Austria will look to stay in the Group F lead in Euro 2024 qualifiers as they host Sweden on Tuesday. Ralf Rangnick’s Austria went on the road to Belgium on Saturday and managed to come away with a draw. Sweden’s opponent over the weekend was New Zealand as they contested a friendly. The Blue and Yellow managed a 4-1 win ahead of Tuesday’s qualifier. With Belgium also in Group F, it’s likely that only one of Austria and Sweden qualifies for the Euros. So, this is quite an important match and we’ll take a look at the Austria vs Sweden odds with that in mind.

Euro 2024 Qualifier

Austria vs Sweden

Date, time:
Location: Ernst Happel Stadium, Vienna, Austria

Head-to-Head

Sweden and Austria last met in a 2018 friendly, which Austria won 2-0. In fact, Sweden have struggled a bit in this fixture recently, with just one win in the last five.

These teams were last in the same Euro qualifiers group ahead of Euro 2016. Austria finished first in that group, as they defeated Sweden 4-1 and drew 1-1. Austria have averaged two goals per game in the last five head-to-head matchups.

Austria Stay Unbeaten

  • Standings: 2-1-0, 1st Group F
  • Key Injuries: F Sasa Kalajdzic

Austria went up against a Kevin de Bruyne-less Belgium on Saturday and managed to bring back a draw. The visitors opened up the scoring as Michael Gregoritsch’s deflected first time effort went past Thibaut Courtois.

Austria held Belgium to two shots on target in the match but one of them went past Alexander Schlager. Romelu Lukaku equalized in the second half for hosts Belgium.

With the draw, Austria’s record is now 2-1-0 and they remain unbeaten in Group F. Austria currently lead Group F but they’ve played one more match than both Sweden and Belgium.

Ralf Rangnick’s side are still looking for their first clean sheet in Euro qualifiers but scoring hasn’t been an issue. Here, the Austria vs Sweden odds price Austria as home favorites.

They haven’t lost a home match since September 2022 and are now on a five-match unbeaten run. Austria’s key players include center back David Alaba, midfielder Xaver Schlager and forwards Michael Gregoritsch and Marko Arnautovic.

So far, both Gregoritsch and Marcel Sabitzer have scored two goals in qualifying. Notably, Austria have lost just three of their last 22 Euro qualifiers.

Sweden in the Mix in Group F

  • Standings: 1-1, 3rd Group F
  • Key Injuries: D Ludwig Augustinsson

Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently announced his retirement from football, which means we won’t get to see Sweden’s all-time leading scorer in blue and yellow anymore. Still, Sweden have a generation of talented players on their hands. Like Ibrahimovic, Alexander Isak is a big, technical striker and he’s expected to lead the line on Tuesday.

Tottenham just permanently signed winger Dejan Kulusevski, who adds dynamism to the Sweden side. Manchester United’s Anthony Elanga is another option in attacking areas. Another United player, Viktor Lindelof, is Sweden’s captain and should start in the heart of defense. Meanwhile, midfielder Emil Forsberg is Sweden’s active leading scorer and appearances leader.

The Euro 2024 Qualifier odds price Sweden as underdogs to advance to Germany 2024. However, they have qualified for the last six European Championships. In 2020 qualifiers, they lost just one of their ten matches but they fell 3-0 to Belgium at home back in March.

Since then, Sweden defeated Azerbaijan 5-0 in their second qualifying match and beat New Zealand 4-1 last Thursday.

Match Analysis and Odds

Heading into Tuesday’s match, the Austria vs Sweden odds price the hosts as +105 moneyline favorites. Austria -0.5 also sits at +105 odds as the Group F leaders look to stay unbeaten in Euro qualifiers. Sweden, who have won just two of their last 11 matches vs. Austria, are +270 moneyline underdogs.

Bettors should note that Sweden are winless in their last three road matches and last picked up a win in June 2022.

Sweden have lost six of their last seven competitive road matches but Sweden +0.5 comes in at -135 odds. A draw shows +235 odds and it would keep Austria at the top of the table, for now.

Three of the last five matches between Austria and Sweden have finished with three or more goals. Here, under 2.5 goals are priced at -140 odds. Both teams certainly have dangerous attacking players, though. Michael Gregoritsch and Marko Arnautovic can create for Austria, while Alexander Isak is a key player to watch for Sweden.
