UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying: Confirmed Teams
Nine Teams Book Places to Next Summer’s Tournament
Germany 2024 Quickly Approaching
Two years and four months ago, Italy won a postponed version of Euro 2020 by defeating England in penalties. Now, we’re just seven months away from Euro 2024, which is being hosted by Germany. Eight teams have already booked their places to join Germany at next Summer’s tournament and we’ll take a closer look at them. Over the next 10 days, 12 more teams will join them as the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying group stage wraps up. Three teams will also book places in next March’s playoffs to round out the 24-team field.
The Hosts
As hosts of Euro 2024, Germany automatically qualified for the tournament. The three-time European champions were disappointed at Euro 2020, and they exited in the round of 16. Germany lost 2-0 to England after finishing in second in Group F. At last year’s World Cup, the pre-tournament soccer betting odds listed Germany as +1000 dark horses to win the tournament.
However, Germany failed to advance out of the group stage for the second straight tournament. Germany dismissed coach Hansi Flick in September and former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has now taken over. Germany has an exciting group of young talents coming through the ranks, like Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala. Playing at home, they’ll be looking to make a deep run next Summer.
Group Winners
UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying has gone excellently for Portugal, England and France. The European powerhouses have all clinched their groups and qualified for Euro 2024 with two matches remaining. Cristiano Ronaldo has proved he still has something left in the tank, as he’s scored nine goals in qualifiers. Bruno Fernandes also leads the entire Euro 2024 qualifier field, with eight assists. Heading into the November international break only Portugal and France have perfect records.
Portugal have gone 8-0 and have astoundingly outscored their opponents 32-2 so far. They did win Euro 2016 and certainly have a shot next Summer. France is 6-0 and has completed the double over the Netherlands. Les Bleus have one of the most talented rosters in the world and they made the World Cup final last year. Kylian Mbappe is having another excellent season at club level and is France’s new captain following Hugo Lloris’s international retirement.
England disappointed by finishing last in their UEFA Nations League group last year. They got relegated in the competition but have an unbeaten 5-1-0 record in Euro qualifiers. While Harry Kane’s trophy drought could end, as a new member of Bayern Munich, he’ll want to captain England to a first international trophy since 1966.
Other Confirmed Teams
Scotland has been one of the biggest surprises of UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying. They won their first five games of the competition, including a massive 2-0 victory over Spain. Some of their strongest players are defenders, like Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney. Along with Spain, Scotland are guaranteed to finish in the top two of Group A. Since losing to Scotland, Spain’s scores and odds have been impressive.
Under Luis de la Fuente, Spain won the recent UEFA Nations League. Heading into November qualifiers, they’re also on a four-game winning streak while outscoring their opponents 16-1. Meanwhile, Turkey has impressed in Group D and has become one of the first ten teams to qualify for Euro 2024. In October, Turkey picked up a 1-0 win on the road at Croatia, one of their most impressive triumphs of recent memory.
Like Group A, the top two teams in Group F have already been confirmed. Belgium is unbeaten, at 5-2-0, and Romelu Lukaku leads the Euro 2024 qualifying field with 10 goals. Lukaku has also been in good form for AS Roma and Belgium have done most of their work with Kevin de Bruyne out injured. Austria is one of the more underrated European teams and they made the knockout stage at Euro 2020. They’ll join Belgium at Euro 2024 and Austria has put together a 5-1-1 qualifying record so far.
Teams Nearing Qualification
Although they’ve lost twice to France, the Netherlands needs just one win out of two to advance to Euro 2024. With one of those matches vs. Gibraltar, they’re nearly guaranteed to seal qualification. Should Italy beat Ukraine on November 20th, the defending champions will clinch their spot in next Summer’s tournament. However, Ukraine can qualify directly and send Italy to the playoff if the Blue and Yellow snag a victory.
Albania, leaders of Group E, have been one of the most impressive teams during qualifiers. All they’ll need to do to advance to Euro 2024 is get a win vs. Moldova or the Faroe Islands. This Friday’s match between the Czech Republic and Poland is crucial. If the Czech Republic wins, they’ll automatically qualify for next Summer’s Euros. Meanwhile, Poland needs a win just to stay alive.
All Hungary and Serbia need to do to be one of the 24 teams at Euro 2024 is get a point this week. Slovenia and Denmark each need a win or a Kazakhstan loss to qualify. Meanwhile, Slovakia just needs one point from their last two games.
