Wells Fargo Championship Odds Released: Excellent PGA Tour field With McIlroy Atop

The PGA’s Best Return to Quail Hollow

Wells Fargo Championship odds have been released and it’s an excellent PGA Tour field, headlined by former world number one Rory McIlroy.

The Northern Irishman could certainly do with a win for his confidence levels, but looking to score an upset are the likes of Patrick Cantlay and last week’s winner Tony Finau.

PGA odds this week are generous, so it could pay to get in early.

What’s On McIlroy’s Mind?

McIlroy won this tournament in 2021, and he’s back to add to his impressive record this week.

However, after some rough weeks, including a missed cut at The Masters, he needs to start producing his best golf, otherwise, bettors will lose interest in the +750 favorite.

Betting on golf can be difficult, but when players like McIlroy aren’t performing, it makes for nervous times. Luckily, he’s a quality golfer who could bounce back to his best at Quail Hollow.

He owns the course record when shooting 61 in 2015, and he’s a three-time winner at Quail Hollow, so the stats are in his favor, hence Wells Fargo Championship odds installing him as the favorite.

His former manager believes winning all four majors is hindering his game.

“He is not really driven by number of wins or number of majors per se, but he seems to be driven by wanting to win the grand slam,” Chubby Chandler said. “It’s a massive mental block and it’s getting harder and harder.

Every time he gets there he has the pressure from everyone else, but also from himself. To me he has got carried away as the mouthpiece of the PGA Tour. He is doing things he shouldn’t be doing and opening his mouth too often.”

We agree with the mouthpiece comment, but given the negative criticism, he would love to come out and win this week.

We’re happy to take the +750 available for McIlroy.

Spieth Needing to Close It Out

Jordan Spieth has been close but no cigar so far this season, which has been due to a lack of clutch play on the back nine.

The American, who at one stage of his career was winning for fun, has seemingly lost his edge. However, he’s still good enough to win the Wells Fargo Championship, provided he can stop making late bogeys.

He finished T3 at the Valspar Championship, T4 at The Masters, and second at the RBC Heritage when holding a one-shot lead late in the tournament.

He should have closed out that tournament, and we’re hoping these close calls don’t have an adverse effect.

Spieth is on the seventh line of betting with Wells Fargo Championship odds at +2200, which is a value price. He’s a quality player who has been playing well, and although he’s lacking recent wins, it will come sooner or later.

We Must Stick with Young

We’re not going to suggest betting on Cameron Young every week and then jump off his back now.

The talented American, who won Rookie of the Year last season, is nearing his first win after a series of top finishes.

He didn’t fire in the RBC Heritage, but that followed a T7 at The Masters and a second-place finish at the World Golf Matchplay.

It’s only a matter of time before Young gets the job done, and it should come this year. He is far too good to remain winless, so we’re happy with the +2200 odds with Wells Fargo Championship odds.

The chase theory is well and truly deployed with Young and we’re looking forward to the day it pays off.
