2024 horse racing looks to have plenty of excitement, namely the Triple Crown, which kicks off with the Kentucky Derby in May.
There are plenty of horse racing events throughout the year, including the Pegasus, Breeders’ Cup, and international racing.
Youngsters Eye Triple Crown
The Triple Crown hasn’t attracted much interest over the last few years, due to a range of factors. However, could we see a resurgence in 2024?
There will always be betting interest with the Kentucky Derby because the dream is alive for every runner and bettor alike. However, it’s the horse races that follow which test the American horse racing industry.
We need to see a better initiative to see the age-group runners line up in all three races, otherwise, the fields get depleted for the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes.
Momentum is starting to build for the Derby, which is only five months away. That’s not long if you have betting interest in a horse, and the market is wide open for the Churchill Downs feature.
If we want anything in 2024 horse racing, it’s for a boom 2-year-old to burst onto the scene and have a big impact.
Breeders’ Cup Hits the Mark
One of the best horse racing meetings in the world is the Breeders’ Cup, which takes the best from the US, Europe, and Asia.
The two-day meeting is a celebration of the thoroughbred, and we expect the 2024 edition to be no different.
Del Mar in California hosts the Breeders’ Cup once again.

We are looking forward to seeing the best in the business, and horse racing odds will be available for all the major races.
There are plenty of Grade 1 races to enjoy, including the Breeders’ Cup Dirt, Turf, and Sprint.
Equinox Retires
The best horse in the world is arguably Equinox, who won the Japan Cup at his 10th start.
The Japanese-trained runner owns eight wins from 10 starts, including some of Japan’s biggest races, and he has been putting some good fields away with ease.
He put many lengths on Liberty Island in the Japan Cup, which is one of the highest rated races in the world. We have no doubt that performance would have seen him win anywhere around the world, including races like the Breeders’ Cup Turf and Melbourne Cup.
However, his retirement leaves the door open for the next thoroughbred superstar. We’re not sure where that will come from, but there is room for a new global superstar, and we’re excited about the thought.
First we had Flightline retire and now Equinox, so we’re hoping the next superstar is a mare.
Drama Free 2024?
We’re hoping 2024 horse racing is drama free, especially compared to the circus show that was 2023.
Trainers were being banned left and right, including Bob Baffert and other prominent North American horsemen.
We would love to see a year without any major dramas, which is needed to get the sport back to its best health. Positive news stories would be a fantastic sight, and it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
We have faith racing in North America can return to its best days. All it takes is a little excitement and someone to take the bull by the horns.
