Vegas Heavily Favored to Win Sixth Straight Versus L.A.

The Las Vegas Aces look to finish strong prior to the All-Star break as they visit the shorthanded Los Angeles Sparks. Of course, the Aces vs Sparks odds expect a blowout with the visitors favored by 12 points. Vegas is just 4-5 against the spread (ATS) as a visitor and is just 3-7 ATS in its last 10 in L.A. But the Sparks are free falling with all their injuries.

Aces Trump Everyone Outside of Dallas

Last week, Las Vegas suffered its second defeat of the season against the Dallas Wings. It snapped its nine-game winning streak. But since then, the team has rebounded strongly by blowing out both Minnesota and Phoenix. In fact, outside of Dallas, the Aces have performed like the WNBA Finals shoe-ins they’re expected to be.

Vegas has won by double digits in nine of their last 12 games. Against the Sparks earlier in the season, Vegas won by nine points then by 28 points. And this was when Los Angeles was still healthier. The team is 10-8 when favored by 10+ points as it has been for most of the season.

Thus, the Aces vs Sparks odds reflect an All-Star team going against what could be the worst team by the season’s end. Las Vegas could even be potentially without former two-time MVP Candace Parker who is dealing with a bad ankle.

But with Vegas hosting the All-Star game, the team should be highly motivated to put on a show. The team scores the most points and averages over 92 on the road. That’s why WNBA odds typically give Vegas’s games a high total, 169 for this Wednesday night, as the team warms itself up heading to the weekend.

Sparks Plummeting to the Bottom

Losers of five straight and eight of their last seven, the Sparks’ 2023 season could be over. It’s been a rough year for Los Angeles as the team has struggled to stay healthy. Forward Chiney Ogwumike continues to be hampered by a foot injury as she sits this one out. And with her on the injury list are guards Karlie Samuelson, Layshia Clarendon, and Lexie Brown.

Samuelson is the newest Spark to be sidelined. Both Clarendon and Brown have played a total of 15 games combined. As such, it’s no surprise to see Los Angeles as large underdogs on the Aces vs Sparks odds. This team has already had issues beating Vegas in the past two seasons.

Nneka Ogwumike will continue to be a workhorse for the team as she’s putting up some MVP-caliber stats with 19.8 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 52.4% from the field. An All-Star selection, her eighth, is a consolation to what is turning out to be a lost season.

“She is truly the leader right now of this franchise,” Sparks head coach. Miller said. “That is a huge difference and a big ask of her.”

Ogwumike can’t do it all by herself as the Sparks degenerate into one of the worst WNBA teams this season. It’s particular on offense where the Sparks’ 78.5 points per game is the third-lowest average in the league.

And on defense, the Sparks are ranked fifth in points allowed (81.4) thanks primarily to Ogwumike’s efforts. Center Azura Stevens has also stepped up to anchor the post. But the team needs more from the rest.

Los Angeles started 4-0 ATS at home but has since been 2-4. But if Ogwumike can continue to “beast” for the Sparks, covering the 12-point spread may not be out of the question.
