Wings vs Aces Preview: Bet For More Fried Wings This Tuesday

Las Vegas Confidently Favors Itself To Go 2-0

The Las Vegas Aces handled business in the WNBA semifinals against the Dallas Wings. It was not the outright destruction we’ve come to expect from this superteam, but Vegas won and covered the double-digit spread. Now, the Game 2 odds expect more of the same with the Aces favored by 10 points. Las Vegas has covered three straight times against Dallas so this Wings vs Aces preview may just sound like a recapitulation.

Dallas Got To Bring the ‘Big D’

The WNBA score on Sunday was a bit misleading. It was a more lopsided game than the 14-point difference indicated. Dallas needs to 1) Have its “Big Three” catch fire; and 2) Find a way to slow down the Aces, particularly A’ja Wilson. The two-time MVP, and frontrunner for a third one this 2023, dismantled Dallas.

The Wings had no answer for her as she torched them for 34 points on 15-of-21 shooting. The Aces shot 53.6% from the field and held the Wings to 43.7% shooting. This is also a misleading stat for Dallas as that percentage bumped up thanks to garbage time.

Arike Ogunbowale, Natasha Howard, and Satou Sabally shot a combined 33.3% from the field (14-of-42). That won’t cut it when most of the Aces shot over 50%. Even if Dallas is just to cover, which it has done in six of its last eight meetings against Vegas, the trio need better performances.

This Wings vs Aces preview will also be remiss if it did not see this upcoming game as another potential high-scoring one. Seven of Dallas’s last 10 road games have gone over the total. This team typically plays with the third-fastest pace and also scores the third-most points (87.9) on average.

The play on the WNBA betting lines could be on Game 2 to go over the total. Dallas could either bounce back and get its offense going or it continues to let Las Vegas roll all over it.

Las Vegas By Either Way

Las Vegas can humor Dallas by going toe-to-toe on offense or it can continue to make life hard for the team’s main stars. Whatever the case, the Aces are deserved 10-point favorites. In fact, that’s how it’s been for five of their last nine meetings. And Vegas covered the last two times they needed to win by 10 or more points.

The Aces may have slowed down in the final half of the WNBA season. But in the end, this team finished with the best record and the top net rating (+15.6). Las Vegas also finished strong with four straight wins (six now following the first-round sweep of Chicago). When this team gets serious, it’s an automatic write-off on the Wings vs Aces preview.

Wilson is arguably the best WNBA player today. She’s averaged 21.3 points and 9.3 boards in 16 career regular-season games against Dallas. But even if she doesn’t put up these stats, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year will make it brutal for Dallas to score inside.

She leads a Vegas team that is also bigger and can be more physical if needed. This team also gets a shot in the arm with Vegas faithful and it will play better two-way basketball as a result. The Aces are 10-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last 14 home games.

Thus, the total has gone under in seven of its last nine at the Michelob Ultra Arena. Las Vegas’s 94.3 defensive rating at home is the best in the WNBA. As prolific as Dallas can get, good luck breaking through.
