The Colorado State vs Texas Matchup Odds Prove This Game Will Go Down To The Wire!

Colorado State vs Texas Final Score

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

The Colorado State Rams earned a first-round matchup against the Texas Longhorns in the Midwest Region. Colorado State dominated Virginia, a team that many thought shouldn’t have been in the Tournament in the first place.

Many teams will use a First Four win as a springboard for a run in the NCAA Tournament. Colorado State could be one of those teams that could do that. The Rams came out of the Mountain West, which has six teams in the NCAA Tournament. Despite having six teams in the NCAA Tournament, the Mountain West still felt the disrespect in seedings and wanted to prove their worth this season. After all, these Mountain West teams would’ve held their own in any conference’s college basketball standings.

Colorado State started the Mountain West off with a bang with its win over Virginia. But now the Rams have to switch focus to the Texas Longhorns. Texas won 20 games this season but lost to Kansas State in the Big 12 Tournament very early.

However, the Longhorns have Max Abmas on the roster. He became a notable star after Oral Roberts took down Ohio State a few years ago in the NCAA Tournament as a 15-seed. Abmas is one of the most clutch players in the Tournament.

With that, the Longhorns are currently -2.5 (-115) in this game. The total also sits at 144.5, with the Under juiced to -115.

Here’s a breakdown of the 7-10 game between the Colorado State vs Texas matchup odds in the Midwest Region.

Colorado State vs Texas Matchup Odds

The Rams went 25-10 straight up and have won against the spread 17 of 33 times against D1 opponents. Meanwhile, the Under has hit in 19 of those games.

Texas went 20-12 straight up but only went 12-19-1 against the spread this season. Texas performed below expectations this season, however, the Over hit in 20 of 32 games this year.

Colorado State and Texas both had losing records on the road this season.

The Mountain West Disrespect

The Mountain West got six teams into the NCAA Tournament. That sounds pretty amazing for a conference that isn’t considered a Power-5 conference.

However, the conference wasn’t thrilled overall due to its seeding.

Although San Diego State landed a five-seed, the rest of the conference felt like they were given a worse seed than many bracketologists projected.

Utah State was thought to be a six-seed and got an eight. Nevada was projected to be a six-seed and got a ten-seed. Meanwhile, New Mexico won the Mountain West and was given an 11 seed despite many projections having them as a nine.

If the Lobos had not won the Mountain West Tournament, New Mexico would not have been in the NCAA Tournament.

Finally, while Colorado State and Boise State had top-55 strength of schedules in non conference, both teams were given a First Four matchup.

It was good to see Colorado State destroy Virginia, which was the ACC’s third-best team this year. The Mountain West has something to prove this year, and Colorado State started the conference right.

Extra Motivation for Texas

The Texas Longhorns have many older guys who won’t be returning next year. Brock Cunningham, Max Abmas, and Dylan Disu are seniors on this 7-seed squad who have a little more motivation heading into March Madness.

Cunningham and Diso played three seasons together. After an Elite Eight run last season, they want to put together another massive run this year.

Disu explained how grateful he was to be playing in the NCAA Tournament. One of his friends from LSU, Jordan Wright, played at Vanderbilt and LSU but never made the NCAA Tournament, so he’s super grateful for this one last opportunity.

A Tight Matchup!

Even the oddsmakers know this game is going to be tight and close. Colorado State has a top 40 offensive efficiency and top 30 defensive efficiency. There are not many teams in college basketball with those kind of numbers.

The Rams don’t earn a high amount of offensive rebounds. They also don’t shoot from downtown at a great clip, hitting only 33.3% from three this season.

However, Texas has allowed 30% of offensive rebounds and has watched teams shoot 34.8% from downtown against them.

Colorado State should have more opportunities for offensive rebounds and will likely get some wide-open looks from downtown. The Rams’ weaknesses could turn into strengths against Texas.

The Rams have also shot 75.3% from the foul line and get to the line at an average rate. However, Texas fouls at a much higher rate. Colorado State would be comfortable at the foul line in this game.

On the other hand, Texas has nailed 36.2% from three and 53.3% from inside the arc. They’ve kept turnovers down and continue succeeding on the offensive glass.

The difference between Colorado State and Texas is that Colorado State has held teams to 27.1% of offensive rebounds and doesn’t foul nearly as much. The Rams are also better at defending the three and are just as good defensively inside the arc.

Don’t forget to watch all of the NCAA Tournament games today. However, this game between Colorado State and Texas should be one of the better ones on the slate.

After looking at the Colorado State vs Texas matchup odds, we’ll side with the Rams at +2.5 (-105). They’ve got the edge with these NCAA Men’s basketball odds.
