Purdue Is Huge Favorite to Extend Home Streak to 16

Scarlet Knights Starting to Figure Things Out

There have been rough patches this season for a Rutgers team that is 5.5 games out of first place in the Big Ten standings when looking at the NCAAB standings. However, Rutgers might be playing some of its best basketball of the season right now.

Rutgers is 4-1 in February with a 22-point win over then-No. 11 Wisconsin among the victories.

Rutgers won back-to-back road games for the first time this season, topping Michigan and Maryland. In the last road game, the Scarlet Knights came up short versus Minnesota to fall to 3-6 on the road. Keep that in mind when looking at the Rutgers vs Purdue odds.

It hasn’t hurt that Jeremiah Williams made his season debut in a Feb. 3 win over Michigan. He is averaging 13.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4 assists in the five games that he has played.

The total has gone under in five of the last six games for Rutgers.

Purdue Looks to Bounce Back

It might not be the best time for Rutgers to be seeing Purdue.

The Boilermakers are coming off a loss to Ohio State. After the first two losses this season, Purdue won the next game by 17 points.

National Player of the Year Zach Edey has led the way with 55 points on 19-of-22 shooting and 32 rebounds in wins over Iowa and Penn State the last two times this season when Purdue was coming off a loss.

Something to consider when it comes to the NCAAB predictions, Purdue has lost consecutive games just once over the last two seasons. Rutgers should have the undivided attention of the Boilermakers based on the result the last time the Scarlet Knights came to town.

Second-leading scorer Lance Jones is shooting 40% from 3-point range at home compared to a 31.9% mark on the road. Braden Smith is connecting on 50% of his 3-pointers at home as well as keep that in mind when it comes to the Rutgers vs Purdue odds.

Purdue is 2-4 against the spread in its last six games.

Last Meeting Rutgers vs Purdue

Mason Gillis and Zach Edey combined for 36 points and 20 rebounds as Purdue topped Rutgers 70-65 in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament. The teams were a combined 13-for-39 from 3-point range.

That was followed by an eight-point road win on Jan. 28 for Purdue. Edey had 26 points and 12 rebounds as he hit the 2000-point mark in the game to become the sixth Big Ten player with at least 2000 points and 1000 rebounds.

Purdue led by 13 points at halftime but still failed to cover for the eighth consecutive game against Rutgers. The game finished under the 142-point total.

Rutgers vs Purdue Betting Preview

Rutgers couldn’t have been happy to see the final score of Purdue’s game against Ohio State on Sunday. Purdue already figured to have a chip on its shoulder based on what happened the last time the Scarlet Knights came to Mackey Arena and now the Boilermakers will look to bounce back from its third loss this season, all the unranked teams.

If there is a silver lining for the visiting Scarlet Knights, it could be that Purdue is 6-8 against the spread following a loss since the start of the 2021-22 season.

When looking at the Big Ten basketball scores, Purdue is 22-3 as the favorite this season while is 3-8 when listed as the underdog.

Rutgers is just 4-5 against the spread on the road with five of those games finishing under the total. Nine of Purdue’s 13 home games went over the total. The total is set at 138.5 points for this matchup.

The 15.5-point line is the highest for a Purdue-Rutgers game since 2018.

The total has landed under in four of the last five times that Rutgers faced a Big Ten team.

The total has gone over in eight of the last 11 games between the Boilermakers and the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers guard Noah Fernandes is expected to play.

Look for Purdue to win and extend its home winning streak to 15 NCAAB games. However, covering as a 15.5-point favorite versus a scrappy Rutgers team could be a little challenging.
