In a season full of eye-popping performances, Nix is coming off arguably his best one yet. He passed for 404 yards and six touchdowns in a 49-13 victory over Arizona State last Saturday. A 24.5-point favorite, Oregon finished with 603 total yards of offense.

What will Nix do for an encore? Let’s dive deeper into the numbers. Here’s a closer look at Player of the Week: Bo Nix.

Nationality:

Player of the Week: Bo Nix

Bo Nix was one of the most productive NCAA football players in Week 12, throwing for 404 yards and a season-high six touchdowns on 24 of 29 passing. Nix, a fifth-year senior, now has multiple touchdown passes in all 11 games this NCAAF season. It was also his fourth game with a completion rate higher than 80%.

As such, Nix continues to rank statistically near the top of FBS in several categories. He’s first in completion percentage (78.1), fourth in yards (3,539) and second in touchdown passes (35). Accordingly, the Ducks, 10-1 and ranked sixth in the AP poll, have established themselves as legitimate contenders to make the College Football Playoff.

Oregon ranks second nationally in both points per game (46.5) and yards per game (546.6). It’s scored at least 33 points in every game this season, including 40-plus six times.

Next up on Saturday is a date with rival Oregon State. The Ducks are 13.5-point home favorites (-110) and -510 on the moneyline, according to college football scores and odds. They’re 8-2-1 against the spread this year, registering the third highest cover rate (80%) in the country.

Odds Outlook

On the heels of his second straight 400-yard passing performance, Nix has maintained his case as one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy. Nix is currently priced +140 to win college football’s most coveted award, leaving him slightly behind LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels (-120).

It’s been a steady climb for Nix, whose odds last month were as low as +1200. Since then, he’s leapfrogged four players, including Michael Penix Jr. of Washington (+650).

There’s still opportunity for Nix to prove himself, starting Saturday against Oregon State. The Beavers are ranked 29th nationally in total defense, limiting opponents to an average of 327.5 yards. They’ve fared reasonably well against some of the conference’s better quarterbacks in Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Penix Jr.

If Oregon takes care of business this week and also wins the Pac 12 Championship Game next month in Las Vegas, it’ll largely be because of Nix. In that case, he’d have a good chance at becoming the first Heisman winner from Oregon since Marcus Mariota in 2014.

As it is, Oregon is a -200 favorite to win the Pac 12 and -165 to make the CFP. The Ducks also remain on the short list of national championship contenders at +650. Only three schools — Georgia, Michigan and Ohio State — currently have better odds. Keep that in mind when making your NCAA football picks.
