Arizona’s HC Jonathan Gannon Will Make Philadelphia Return In Week 17

The Cardinals vs Eagles Betting Trends Show Philadelphia Has Been Overvalued Until Now

The Philadelphia Eagles will look to earn some momentum after a nail-biting win against the New York Giants last time out.

The Eagles made the Super Bowl and almost won it last year. However, at 11-4 this season, Philadelphia still doesn’t look like a Super Bowl contender. Fortunately for the Cowboys, they’ll take on a three-win Cardinals squad that has only won once in the last five weeks.

That said, the Eagles are -10.5 against the spread, with the total at 48. Philadelphia is currently -590 on the moneyline, making them a parlay piece only.

The Eagles should be fine at home despite the turmoil coming out of the locker room. But will the Eagles cover?

Let’s look at the Cardinals vs Eagles betting trends to see which team has the more favorable matchup.

Cardinals vs Eagles Betting Trends

Although the Eagles are 11-4 on the season, Philadelphia is only 6-6-3 against the spread this season. Oddsmakers have hyped up the Eagles, but the Eagles aren’t coming through regularly.

Meanwhile, the Over has hit in eight of 15 games for the Eagles this season. They’re also 6-1 at home this year.

On the other hand, the Cardinals are 1-7 on the road. Ironically, despite three straight wins, the Cardinals have won more games against the spread, going 7-7-1 this season. Arizona has also hit the Over in eight of 15 games but has pushed one game this season.

Philadelphia earned a win over Arizona on October 9, 2022, 20-17. However, the Cardinals covered as a 5.5-point underdog in that game.

Jonathan Gannon’s Return To Philadelphia

As noted above, the Eagles haven’t been the same as last year’s team that made the Super Bowl. Gannon was the defensive coordinator with the Eagles for two seasons under the Eagles’ head coach, Nick Sirianni. However, after last year, he earned a head coaching position with the Arizona Cardinals and left the Eagles.

Gannon has struggled to win consistently in his first season as head coach with the Cardinals. But it’s going to take time to build from the bottom.

It’s unclear what the reception will be like for Gannon after his departure, which added to some tension between the Eagles and Gannon. However, Sirianni noted that he still loves Gannon and that he roots for him whenever they’re not playing each other.

DeVonta Smith Said The Obvious

At 11-4, the Eagles should be happy. They’re on their way to another playoff appearance and will play for a Super Bowl.

However, DeVonta Smith gave the media his assessment of the team lately.

He acknowledged that the Eagles aren’t playing good football right now. The entire team knows it.

Smith continued saying the offense is not where they want it to be. He’s not happy or satisfied and believes everybody else wants to be better, too.

A game against a three-win Cardinals team could help the team get back on track a couple of weeks before the playoffs.

Philadelphia’s Focus Will Be Top Notch In Week 17

The Eagles are likely tired of hearing all of the noise about how bad they’ve been. This team is way too talented to be playing like a subpar team.

Philadelphia ended a three-game losing streak against the Giants last week. However, the Eagles gave the Giants a chance to tie the game in the final minute, squeaking out a 33-25 win against a Giants team already out of the playoff hunt.

The Eagles have scored 25.64 points per game this season but have given up 24.36 points. The offense hasn’t lived up to the hype, and the defense has underperformed this year.

However, Arizona has allowed 147 yards on the ground this season, while the Eagles have rushed for over 128 yards per game. The Eagles should have major success rushing the football and will also be effective in the air, with Arizona’s secondary struggling to make a solid impact this season.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals have been the most dominant rushing the football. James Conner has played incredibly as of late. He’s earned only 155 carries but has 762 yards with five touchdowns. Conner also has three touchdowns in his last three games.

But the Eagles are typically great against the run, allowing only 94.43 yards per game on the ground this season. It’s the secondary that has looked bad for the Eagles this season.

With Arizona only averaging 177.07 yards per game in the air, the Cardinals likely won’t do enough offensively to keep up with an angry Eagles team that will want to prove to the NFL world that they’re ready for the playoffs in a couple of weeks.

Our NFL Playoff predictions are that the Eagles will still be a tough out in the postseason. The NFL betting odds for the Eagles at -10.5 still feel low against the Cardinals. Look at some of the NFL scores for the Cardinals this season. They’ve been underwhelming.

Therefore, after reviewing the Cardinals vs Eagles betting trends, we’ll ride the Eagles at -10.5 (-110).
