NHL: Flyers vs Canucks Odds Preview

Philly Takes Talents to Pacific Northwest on 7-2-1 Streak

The Philadelphia Flyers (18-11-4, 40 points) head to British Columbia to take on the Vancouver Canucks (23-9-3, 49 points) in an interesting battle between two NHL teams that have been sending a message to the rest of the league that says they have turned their franchises around and must be taken seriously.

The Flyers are in the third spot of the Metropolitan Division, trailing the New York Rangers by seven points for first place. Vancouver has taken over the lead in the Pacific Division from the Vegas Golden Knights by two points.

Tortorella Was The Right Coach At The Right Time

When a team’s mascot is easily the most exciting thing to see when going to a Flyers home game, changes had to be made. John Tortorella took over in June of 2022 and immediately changed the culture of the Flyers despite a 31-38-13 record in 22-23.

His message wasn’t welcomed after a while in Columbus but it’s sure the magic formula in a town where they want their head coach to have fire in his belly. They’re within shouting distance of the Rangers in the NHL standings, and only one point behind the New York Islanders for second place in a division they finished seventh in last year.

Owen Tippett (11-8-19 points) has been a terrific pick-up for Philly and Sean Couturier (7-14-21) is getting stronger by the NHL game in a top-line center role. The Flyers need more depth scoring to contend, but for right now it’s more than the demanding Philly fan base could ask for.

Canucks Not Waiting To Make Moves

Since the Vancouver Canucks lost to the Boston Bruins in the 2011 Stanley Cup, it seems like Vancouver was never good enough to get back to that level or was never bad enough to acquire an impact player.

It took this organization 13 seasons to be taken seriously again and a win tonight against their Eastern counterparts would further the point that Rick Tocchet was exactly what this organization needed.

Vancouver made an early pre-deadline move when they acquired Nikita Zadorov from the Calgary Flames and departed with Bo Horvat in a trade with the New York Islanders. For both of these teams, the culture change could easily push both teams into a playoff spot.

With our focus on Thursday’s Flyers vs Canucks odds, let’s continue with both teams from a betting perspective.

Both Teams Are Crushing Books in 2023

We didn’t have to look this up to know that the Flyers and the Canucks are two of the best stories to come out of 2023 for bettors.

Vancouver has produced more profit than anyone in the NHL this season with 7.32 units of profit, but Philadelphia is right behind them with 6.66 units won (3rd place).

The only team keeping this from being a 1 vs 2 match-up is the New York Rangers with 7.27 units. The Flyers are 14-12 as an underdog this season (+6.67 units) after finishing 22-45 (-9.52 units) last season.

As a road dog, Tortorella’s team is 9-6 (+6.64 units) as a dog. In what is one of our best hockey betting tips, we’re going to recommend staying with the Flyers and the plus money in this one.

Philly has been in hockey mode longer than the Canucks who have rolled out of their beds for six days. Philly catches the Canucks with visions of sugar plums still dancing in their heads tonight. That does it for our Flyers vs Canucks odds analysis.

All the best with your NHL wagers this week.
