2023 Wednesday NHL Hockey Matchups Analysis

Tonight’s Lineup Offers Intriguing Predators vs. Leafs TNT Match-Up.

It’s not the greatest card the NHL has ever dolled out, but with the Nashville Predators (19-14-6, 44 points) traveling to Toronto to take on the Leafs (25-9-7, 57 points) we have some intrigue. Toronto was listed as a -200 favorite with six as the total. There has been plenty of NHL public betting early to discuss as we break down our NHL picks and parlays for our Wednesday’s card. Of the four games, each offers a favorite that is -175 or more. Perhaps we’ll look at  other options to cash tickets as we start our dive into our NHL Hockey matchups analysis.

Must-Watch Television

Nashville Predators vs Toronto Maple Leafs

Date, Time & Streaming:
NHL Over/Under: Predators 19-20 ATS, 17-21 O/U/Maple Leafs 17-24 ATS, 17-23 O/U

Quietly the Nashville Predators have won four straight games, with three coming as an underdog, in addition to pulling at least a point out of seven straight games. A win tonight in Toronto would wake up some to what is happening in Nashville, even though they still have some work to do to find themselves securely in an NHL playoff spot.

The side won’t be the focus of our selection because the total has bent in our direction, giving bettors another bankroll-friendly option.

‘The opening number of 6.5 has been bet down to 6, and that’s where we’re going to take advantage of the over (-120). this is a classic NHL match-up of two teams that have cashed under bets more times than not, but recent form shows neither team is an automatic under wager with both going 7-3 to the over in their last 10.’

It’s very important to know where a team has been over the course of an NHL season, but it’s even more important to understand their recent identity.

Ice Chips

Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers

Date, Time & Streaming:
NHL Over/Under: Capitals -177, 6 0 -115/Flyers +147

We find ourselves rooting for Flyers head coach John Tortorella more times than not. Maybe it’s his style or brash demeanor, or the fact that Philadelphia couldn’t be any more perfect for the headstrong coach. After surviving a 10-game losing streak earlier in the season, Torts has his NHL team back on track with six wins in seven games.

Streaks are nothing new to this franchise but this one feels different with Philadelphia growing up before our eyes. Like with all of today’s games, we’re going to look to the total for our winner.

‘With Philadelphia playing their third game in four nights and the Washington Capitals getting a major boost from the return of Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson, it appears as if the over is the right side tonight.’

Philadelphia has played in four straight overs at home, while the Capitals have cashed over tickets in four of their last five games against the Eastern Conference. The betting public is taking the opposite side with the total going from 6 (o -122) to 6 (o -115).

Wait For the Highlights

Edmonton Oilers vs Anaheim Ducks

Date, Time & Streaming:
NHL Over/Under: Oilers -250, 6.5 o -125/Ducks +205

The Ducks will look to rebound from one of their most embarrassing losses this season after dropping a 7-1 home decision to the Boston Bruins this past weekend. The game made the home faithful happy, mostly because there were more Bruin fans than Ducks as is the case in most West Coast arenas except for maybe the Vegas Golden Knights and the Los Angeles Kings when the B’s come to town.

Neither team should be proud of their recent defensive effort with both combining to give up 13 combined goals in their previous NHL game. Not surprisingly, the betting public has moved the needle over some with 81% of the early tickets showing favoritism towards the over.

If you look deeper, five of Edmonton’s last six games after they allowed five goals proved that the under was the right side, while the under is 8-1 when the Ducks are playing on two days’ rest. The series between these two have produced seven straight overs but that streak ends tonight. Between the under in this game and the over in the Predators/Leafs, it appears that a two-team parlay could be in play.

That does it for our NHL Hockey matchups analysis and picks. All the best tonight as we hit the midway point of the season.
