The New Jersey Devils look to exact some rapid revenge on Wednesday night as they open up post-Christmas play against the same club they faced on Friday night, the Boston Bruins. The Devils jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first period thanks to a late goal from forward Jack Hughes, his 18th of the season, before the Bruins piled on for four scores in the middle frame.

The Devils did score two more in the third period to try and mount a furious comeback and force overtime, but goaltender Linus Ullmark proved to be too much, making 37 saves on 40 shots faced in that contest. Look for the 29-year old Swedish native to get the call in net again for the Bruins as their backup Jeremy Swayman played last night versus the Ottawa Senators.

New Jersey has now lost seven of their last eight games overall and what was once a comfortable lead in the Metropolitan Division standings is now just a slight hold onto a spot in the NHL Wild Card Odds race with this recent skid.

The Boston Bruins suffered just their third loss past regulation on Tuesday night as they dropped a 3-2 shootout decision on the road against the Ottawa Senators. Forward Jake DeBrusk scored his 14th goal of the NHL season in the second period and centerman Pavel Zacha scored his fourth goal of the year late in the third to send the game into overtime, but Senators goaltender Cam Talbot was electric between the pipes, making 49 saves in regulation and overtime, along with stopping all three Bruins shots in the shootout for his ninth victory of the season.

Now Coach Jim Montgomery’s crew heads back to Newark for the second time in five days to take on a New Jersey Devils club that they beat 4-3 right before the break on Friday. In that game, forward David Pastrnak scored a pair of goals, extending his club lead to 24 on the season, while the aforementioned DeBrusk scored a goal and added an assist in the victory.

Boston has drawn a lot of NHL Public Betting attention with their hot run to start the year and many anticipate that will continue into the new calendar year of 2023.
