The Washington Capitals have struggled all season long in the National Hockey League Metropolitan Division, with one of the worst offensive groups in the league, despite having the second-best scorer of All-Time in Alex Ovechkin. Now, the “Great Eight” was on a slump for most of the start to the year, but with five goals in the last five games combined, the 38-year-old veteran is starting to find his personal groove, but it won’t help much for the rest of this club moving forward.

Outside of winger Dylan Strome, with his team leading 21 goals, head coach Spencer Carberry is strapped with a bunch of forwards who can’t find their way toward scoring consistently on a nightly basis. Goaltender Charlie Lindgren made 37 saves on 39 shots faced to earn his eleventh victory of the season in a 6-2 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday evening in D.C.

Shock and Awe in Tampa?

The Tampa Bay Lightning were on a nice run until they got blown out by their rivals, the Florida Panthers, at home 9-2 last weekend. The Bolts followed that up with another defeat at Amalie Arena on Monday evening, this time at the hands of the Ottawa Senators by a final score of 4-2. Senators defenseman Mathieu Joseph scored a pair of goals, and Tampa has now fallen to the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, just one point ahead of the Detroit Red Wings, who are also in the Atlantic Division.

Tampa Bay will once again go to their superstar between the pipes in Andrei Vasilevskiy, who has won three of his last five starts and will need to be in better form along with the rest of head coach Jon Cooper’s club if they wish to continue their streak of reaching the postseason this Spring.
