Dallas Favored To Bounce Back Per the Knights vs Stars Odds

The Vegas Golden Knights look to take two on the road against the Dallas Stars after the defending champs stunned the top-seeded Stars 4-3 in Game 1. Vegas received points from seven players including Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifan who chipped in two assists each. Oddsmakers have Dallas as a -155 favorite. The total is 5.5 (over -125). Knights Look Like Champs In Game One

The Golden Knights are still outside our top 10 NHL rankings but with another win on the road, that may change. We asked in our Game 1 preview if there was another gear to the Knights’ game. They lost a critical home game to the Anaheim Ducks on the last day of the regular season, falling to the second wild-card spot. When it’s all said and done, we may look back and say it was best for Vegas to face the Stars instead of the Edmonton Oilers.

With the win the Golden Knights improved to 17-6 in the postseason over the last two seasons and 55-34 (+12.50 units) since 2018.

No team in the playoffs has produced more winnings for bettors, which is why you never count out Bruce Cassidy’s team no matter where they start the postseason. They’ve done their damage against the books as a road underdog as we saw once again on Monday. VGK has won six of their last nine games as a road dog (+4.61 units) and 14 of their last 26 (+5.81 units). No teams have more postseason road wins than the Golden Knights since 2018.

Vegas is comfortable wearing the league’s black hat despite the other NHL fans’ misguided claims from salary cap manipulation to Gary Bettman rolling out the red carpet to the Stanley Cup.

None of which is true but it helps the league sleep at night. This organization was built by players and coaches with a chip on their shoulders with something to prove. That approach has evolved into confidence with a toe in arrogance, and that’s how you build a championship culture.

Stars Have Plenty To Feel Good About

What’s lost in the game one defeat is how the Stars were able to limit the Golden Knights scoring chances for most of the night. Vegas managed just 15 shots on net in 60 minutes, unfortunately, four of them went in, bringing up the question of how effective goaltender Jake Oettinger will be in the long run.

The loss can’t be put at the feet of Oettinger completely because the Stars were sloppy on their end. This led to the Jonathan Marchessault goal to give Vegas an early 2-0 lead. The Knights may have been outshot 29-15, but Dallas paid for every mistake.

We talked about proper positioning down low and the importance of cutting down passing lanes. Every time Pete DeBoer’s team took a mental break they were made to pay. The good news is these things are easy to fix. With the loss, the Dallas Stars are 13-14 (-1.86 units) in the playoffs since 2022.

Money is flowing in on the Stars in Game 2 but we would caution that enthusiasm because when the Stars are a favorite of more than -150 they’re just 7-11 (-7.22 units), the worst mark in the NHL since 2006.

The Side Is Too Rich For Our Bankroll

We were looking to wager on the Stars but we’re in no mood to lay -155, so off to the total we go. As usual, we like to look in the opposite direction of most bettors, so the under 5.5 and the plus money is the side here.

The final NHL score in game one was 4-3, which cashed an over ticket, but the game was played at an under pace with strange bounces and misguided passes. So much of the goaltending focus has been on Jake Oettinger but Logan Thompson needs to be a touch better too.

We’ve always said that game two of a series is a true representation of how one team matches up against another and what they are going to be is two teams that are not happy with how they played defensively making our official NHL pick for game two under 5.5. That concludes our Knights vs Stars odds preview, all the best to you and your NHL hockey picks and parlays.
