Bettors Waiting for Oilers to Put Vegas Away

The Edmonton Oilers bounced back just as bettors predicted, adding fuel to the prevailing thought that the powerful Oilers are the better team. Every night of the regular season we knew after checking daily NHL scores and standings that ultimately it would come down to these two clubs in the West.

The series has gotten so gritty that one has to wonder what will be left for either of these teams in the Conference Finals. We’ve seen Evander Kane show why he’s one of the dirtiest or toughest players in the league, depending on who you’re rooting for, after disposing of Golden Knights tough guy, Keegan Kolesar in a game-three tussle. To be fair, Kane kept on throwing blows with Kolesar defenseless with his back on the ice.

Player Safety decided that was okay as they did with multiple crosschecks to the back of the Knights Brett Howden by Edmonton fourth liner Klim Kostin. Welcome to playoff hockey. Connor McDavid finished with two assists along with one for Leon Draisaitl, but it should be worth noting that Edmonton played a complete game with contributions from depth players.

The Oilers were just 1-6 on the power play but Edmonton owned 17 more minutes with the man advantage after a night where Vegas had an uncharacteristic 64 penalty minutes. If Edmonton continues to get the better of power play changes in addition to a physical advantage, it will be a matter of time before the betting public is right about Edmonton.

Vegas, Terrific off Losses, Needs to Dig Deep One More Time

Trends will tell you that the Golden Knights aren’t going away easily. Vegas is 10-1 in the game after scoring two goals or less and 15-5 in their last 20 home games. You get the feeling that Bruce Cassidy’s team has to play a perfect game to win while Edmonton can use their offensive firepower to cover up a few mistakes.

Speaking of perfect, goaltender Adin Hill, who made 29 saves, was making his first playoff start in his career. In a series that resembles a tennis match, the Golden Knights must hold serve or the Oilers will complete the trifecta which is ability, physicality, and mental advantage. You can say that Edmonton has achieved the first two, but still has not shown that killer instinct with Vegas against the ropes. Now comes the elephant in the room.

The league thought all was cool with the actions of Kane, but Alex Pietrangelo has a hearing with the league office that could lead to a game-five suspension after a nasty slash on Draisaitl with 1:27 left in the third. Not to stick up for Pietrangelo but you have to think the 33-year-old defenseman was a little frustrating after physical play by Edmonton resulted in a lack of calls.

McDavid hit Pietrangelo from behind that was an easy boarding call, Kane went high with his stick that was called, but overall you could say that Edmonton has a friend in the officiating crew through four games. If the Golden Knights’ defensemen are unavailable for game five, that will be a major loss for the Knights. Something bettors need to keep an eye on. Let’s conclude our Knights vs Oilers Betting preview by giving our game-five betting assessment

Smart to Anticipate a One-Game Suspension

This is what will happen. If the Knights are down a top-pair defenseman, you can bet the public will be all over the over, especially when there is a healthy plus money to be had. Again, let’s look at it differently. Bruce Cassidy is a master at defensive adjustments, and with or without Pietrangelo this game will be no different. Expect both teams to focus on playing defensive hockey with another terrific performance by both Adin Hill and Stuart Skinner, who will likely get the call for Edmonton again.

Bet the under (7, -130) in game five. We give the Knights a slight advantage at home, but not an opinion that would override our opinion on the total. That does it for our Knights vs Oilers Betting game five previews, we wish you the best throughout the postseason, find out the latest Stanley Cup odds today.
