Knights Look to Take Down Another Atlantic Division Contender

NHL: Vegas Golden Knights vs Boston Bruins Odds Preview

The Knights look to follow up their massive win against Toronto with another Atlantic Division win

The Vegas Golden Knights (33-19-7, 73 points) avenged an embarrassing loss at home to the Toronto Maple Leafs by handing the Leafs a 6-2 defeat. Current NHL playoff standings show the Knights are securely in a playoff spot in the Western Conference but are closer to losing their second place standing in the Pacific Division (3-point lead on Edmonton but Oilers have three games in hand), than they are catching the Vancouver Canucks who have a 10-point lead.

The Boston Bruins (34-12-14, 82 points) have been trading places with the Florida Panthers for the top spot in the Atlantic Division as they try to return the favor for a loss in Vegas. The Panthers have one game in hand over the B’s. NHL betting lines opened the Bruins as a -162 favorite with a total of 6 (under -115) but there has been early movement. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. PT and can be seen on NESN and SCRIPPS. Let’s start our Knights vs Bruins odds preview with a deeper look at Vegas from a betting perspective.

Vegas Continues To Set Records

There is no secret that the rest of the NHL has a misplaced thorn in them when it comes to the Vegas Golden Knights. That’s okay will the Golden Knights and their fans because when other teams don’t like you it means you’ve accomplished something, which we all know they gave. Add another accolade to the seven-year franchise after winning 300 games faster than any team in NHL history.

It took Vegas 514 games to get to the mark and it wasn’t all that close. The Edmonton Oilers held the record with 300 wins in 542 games or 28 more than the Knights. Some will point to the unprecedented expansion rules that allowed Vegas a small head start but astute fans will quickly remind everyone that the 2017 team featured players that still earned them the worst odds to win the Stanley Cup.

Their success was a direct reflection of the moves that GM McPhee made, fleecing teams like the Florida Panthers that gave them a formidable top line with Reilly Smith and Jonathan Marchessault. No one was crying foul when the Knights acquired William Karlsson from the Columbus Blue Jackets with his 25 points, a number that jumped to 78 in his first season in Vegas.

How does all of this pertain to the match-up with Boston? We’re going to see Boston money come in after VGK’s massive win against the Leafs but before bettors lay -155 or more, just understand that they could be setting themselves up for a loss against an organization that has been proving people wrong since their expansion draft.

Injuries and Trade Deadline On The Mind Of The Bruins

Not that this isn’t the case with every team, including the Golden Knights, but today we saw some in the organization admit that the deadline is on their minds. Boston doesn’t have the assets it did last year when they attempted to bolster their Stanley Cup hopes but with Lake DeBrusk on the verge of being a UFA at the end of the season, logic will tell you that his name would fetch the biggest return unless GM Don Sweeney wanted to play with fire and dangle Linus Ullmark’s name out to test the return.

This game marks the return of the former Bruins head coach who went to Vegas and won a Stanley Cup after a first-round loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2022. Boston is trying to break a string of six straight games that have gone into overtime, giving them a 2-0-4 record over their last six, but to bettors that just means they’ve dropped four of their last six and five of their last seven. We conclude our Knights vs Bruins odds preview with our official NHL prediction.

Early Betting Patterns On The Wrong Side

It’s early but we’ve already seen an adjustment in the total at most spots after opening 6 (under). The six was shaky because it didn’t take long before the total was adjusted to 5.5 (over -120). That’s good news for us because we’re putting out cash on the over 5.5.

The game against Toronto went over the total, but that was after the Knights came out looking as if they were afraid to make a mistake against an offense that lit them up at home.

We think you’ll see more of a relaxed group and don’t forget there is the possibility that Jack Eichel will return adding a massive offensive presence. We know Boston’s top six is as good as anyone in the league so we anticipate plenty of high danger chances.
