Oilers, McDavid Hope To Build Another Win Streak

We can honestly tell you that it’s not easy going home for one game after a three-game road trip. Especially after that trip produced a 1-2 mark after a 16-game win streak that was ended by the Golden Knights.

The Oilers shrugged off the difficult stretch of games with an 8-4 win against the Detroit Red Wings after Connor McDavid added six assists to his season total. McDavid has 77 points this season, with 67 coming in 36 games with Chris Knoblauch as their head coach.

The Oiler superstar is now tied for third place in the NHL with David Pastrnak, who also has 77 points. McDavid was just the third player in the last 25 years to put up six assists in a game. With the win, Edmonton is just one win away from putting bettors into the black for the season (-0.69 units). To give you an idea of how much oddsmakers think of the Oilers, over the last three years, Edmonton is 179-122 (.595), but all of those wins have produced a minuscule 0.15 profit, making consistent wagers on the Oilers difficult. With that being said, you can bet the Edmonton Oilers will be a tough out in this year’s NHL playoffs.

Blues Embarrassed Against Toronto

The St. Louis Blues were in a position to steal a win away from the depleted Toronto Maple Leafs with Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and Morgan Rielly out of the line-up. Still, as bettors have seen in the past, this was just a chance for others to step up and show they deserve more playing time. Not only did the Blues lose 4-1, but they managed a total of 15 shots, including just three in the opening period.

Simply put, David Bannister didn’t have his team ready to play. Perhaps St. Louis was more focused on a date with tonight’s opponent than they ever were against the Leafs. Part of what aided St. Louis to win seven of their last nine games has been a power play that has been nothing short of lethal, with a 50% success rate.

That was a much-needed boost to a power play that remains 23rd in the NHL with a 16.9% success rate and power-play goals (26). Special teams may be an issue, but St. Louis has made bettors a ton of cash with 10.19 units won, second to the Vancouver Canuck (+10.95 units). We conclude our Oilers vs Blues line preview with our official selection.

Expect The Line To Move In Oilers Direction

With Edmonton being a large road favorite, we don’t expect there to be significant movement, but we could be looking at Edmonton -180 before the puck drops.

This is too much for our bankroll, so we’re going to focus on the total. We can’t watch the offensive explosion against the Wings and think the Oilers won’t do more than their part to push this game over the 6.5 total, making that our official NHL expert pick.
