Who Is The Next NHL Coach To Be Fired?

11 Coaches on Betting Board to Be Let Go First

The Buffalo Sabres (17-20-4, 38 points) are seven points out of a playoff spot but that is good enough to put head coach Don Granato (+125) at the top of the NHL odds list of coaches who are most likely to be fired next. A close second is Lindy Ruff (+300) of the New Jersey Devils (21-15-2, 44 points) followed by David Quinn (+500) of the San Jose Sharks (9-23-3, 21 points). We examine the top three coaches who are worth a wager as the next NHL coach fired.

Sharks logo San Jose Sharks: David Quinn (+500)

If you’re not happy with where the San Jose Sharks are in the standings, don’t blame first-year head coach David Quinn who seemed to be the last coach standing after other NHL teams around the league were busy locking up their coach One reason for that was Hasso Plattner waited until July of 2022 to name a general manager who turned out to be Mike Grier.

The former Shark then hired Quinn at the end of July. The cupboard was bare and if Quinn is fired they have nobody else to blame except Plattner themselves. It’s interesting to note that this week, David Quinn was “pissed off” with the Sharks effort against the Toronto Maple Leafs in their 11th straight loss.

His team has been at the bottom of the NHL Standings with 21 points, five points less than the Chicago Blackhawks. Quinn is in his second season and we think there is very little reason to fire a coach that was given crumbs to work with.

Devils logo New Jersey Devils: Lindy Ruff (+300)

The Devils (44 points) are just one point out of a playoff spot and New Jersey has four games in hand over the Tampa Bay Lighting (45 points). NHL Injuries didn’t fly in Vegas a few years ago, but the reality the Devils are dealing with a few massive injuries starting with forward Jack Hughes (45 points), defenseman Dougie Hamilton (16 points), and veteran forward Timo Meier (15 points).

Throw in Tomas Nosek and Ondrej Palat, and it’s easy to see why New Jersey isn’t where you might expect but with a ton of hockey to be played and deals that could be made at the deadline, we don’t think Lindy Ruff will be the next NHL coach fired.

Islanders logo New York Islanders: Lane Lambert (+1000)

The Islanders currently hold the first wild card position but are just 4-4-2 in their last 10 while it appears the Pittsburgh Penguins (Mike Sullivan +2200) and the Tampa Bay Lightning are heating up.

The reason why Lambert won’t be fired is because if the Islanders go in that direction, they need to turn the soil over and find a new voice that doesn’t have ties to the organization.

To do that they need to wait until after the NHL season to have a full pool of coaches available. The most important factor is that GM Lou Lamoriello is in the final year of his contract and there’s no way they’re signing a coach to multiple years until they know what Lamoriello’s future would be. So who do we think is worth a wager as the next NHL coach fired?

Blue Jackets logo Columbus Blue Jackets: Pascal Vincent (+1000)

Before we hand our selection to Vincent, we want to preface by saying that this is not in any way supposed to be serious, so don’t run out and make a 5% future wager on this. Don’t bet this at all. Too many NHL games to tie your bankroll up with a future wager on who will be the next coach fired.

Also, so many of these opinions don’t take into account what type of relationship a coach has with his NHL players or management. With that being said, we don’t know how the Columbus Blue Jackets can continue to fall into the depths of the Eastern Conference with a 13-20-9 record or 13-29 to bettors. Another point that plays a massive factor is attendance.

Columbus is 25th in the league, filling just 90.9% of the arena. Believe us, that matters. Vincent is in his first year but besides the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks, no team in the league has the longest road ahead of him.

Throw some money on him and perhaps a few duckets on Don Granato because the Sabres won’t stand by him if they continue to lose. That’s our NHL coaching prediction, just one more thing, we don’t there will be a move until after the deadline.
