Ohio Bobcats – NCAAF History
Ohio Bobcats Startup
The Ohio Bobcats are a Division I FBS Football team based in Athens, Ohio. Founded in 1894, Ohio has an overall record of 585-580-65. One of the oldest college programs in the state, the Bobcats had dominating teams in the late 1920s and 1930s under head coach Don Peden, for whom the current stadium is named after.
Undefeated Seasons 20s-30s
Between 1929 and 1935, the Bobcats went 49-9-3, capturing four Buckeye Athletic Association conference titles and running off three undefeated seasons, with the 1929 team only allowing a grand total of seven points scored in nine games.
Turnaround by Head Coach Solich
Outside of a pair of college bowl game appearances in 1962 and 1968, Ohio didn’t enjoy much consistent success until Frank Solich became head coach in 2005. In 15 seasons, Solich turned the program around, leading them to four Mid-American Conference East Division titles and 11 bowl appearances, winning five within that span.
