I still feel Devin [is going to win]. The thing about Devin is, he’s serious about his craft. You can tell. He has everything in order,” Prograis said.
It was simply outstanding boxing, which followed a close title fight against Vasyl Lomachenko, where he retained all four lightweight belts. His boxing schedule has also been the busiest of any fighter in the division. Imagine, he’s having his 32nd fight at the age of 25, and that should be celebrated.
Haney might not have the knockout power of Mike Tyson, or the ringcraft of Mohammad Ali, but he’s a dynamic boxer. Thus, the Haney vs Garcia odds are giving him plenty of respect, and it’s good to see. Bettors might see the -800 and think it’s not a value line. However, compared to what he could be paying, we see plenty of value in betting markets.
Is Garcia All That?
We don’t think Garcia’s record is as impressive as it seems. The 25-year-old American has done a great job of getting in the limelight through social media, but his best win came against Oscar Jurado, and we don’t have him close to Haney.
Boxing lines have him as the big underdog for a fair reason. He got rocked in the seventh round when losing to Gervonta Davis, which is the best form guide for Garcia’s chances.
Davis has more knockout power than Haney. But Haney is a much more cerebral fighter. Garcia could struggle to figure him out, and being taller won’t count for much when Haney is bobbing and weaving.
It’s hard to completely rule out a fighter who is ranked fourth in the world. However, the fight could go the distance, so he could see the final bell.
The Haney vs Garcia odds have the total rounds line set at 10.5, so they’re expected to go to the final round. If that’s the case, Garcia is likely losing on points, as we can’t see him winning on the scorecards.
