Quality boxers meet in Cardiff on Saturday when Lauren Price challenges current IBO and WBA welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill.
McCaskill vs Price odds have McCaskill at +350 despite being the current two-belt champion.
Most of the money has come for Price, who is 6-0, and looking to continue her rise up the rankings.
Is the Champion Underrated?
Considering McCaskill has fought for all five world titles is being overlooked; there could be value with betting on boxing markets.
The American won the five world titles when beating Alma Ibarra in 2022 before losing to Chantelle Cameron later that year.
However, the fight against Cameron came for the lightweight titles, and she did well to push Cameron to the brink.
She then fought 6-1 Sandy Ryan, which ended in a draw, but many critics would say McCaskill was unlucky not to get the decision.
We don’t see why McCaskill vs Price odds have her at such a big quote. The +350 should be around +150, and we’re taking into account that she’s fighting outside the US. However, she fought in Abu Dhabi for the lightweight titles, and she fought well.
She’s already looking ahead at her boxing schedule. She wants to fight Natasha Jones if she’s victorious against Price.
“Natasha and I have had conversations. We would love to fight Natasha. She has a lot of fans and is coming to the end of her career but definitely deserves more title fights before she’s done,” McCaskill said.
Price at Skinny Odds
The problem with British boxers is that they’re always over-hyped, which could be the case for Lauren Price.
She is a fine boxer in her own right, but she hasn’t fought anyone of note. She comes off a win over Silvia Bortot, which was rated a one-star fight.
The number seven-ranked boxer in the division is suddenly a -500 chance to rise severely in opponent and win the titles. However, although she might be a rising star in the boxing world, those odds are ridiculous.
McCaskill isn’t a pushover. In fact, she’s the champion. Therefore, we simply can’t understand the McCaskill vs Price odds.
She showed her ability as an amateur fighter when winning an Olympic gold, but it’s a big step up to the professional ranks.
“When I turned over from the amateurs, I wanted to move fast and have been calling for big fights since last year, I don’t agree with the opinion it’s too fast for me, as long as my team believe in me, that’s what counts. I shut all the noise out, the good and the bad.” Price told ESPN.
In terms of boxing events, it doesn’t get any bigger for her. If she was a +110 underdog we would have entertained the odds, but at -500, there are much better bets out there.
Picking the Champion to Prevail
There is a big difference between winning an Olympic gold in 2021 and being the current professional two-belt champion.
Price has the ability to beat quality opponents, but we have yet to see it. Because of that, and because McCaskill is a quality fighter, we’re taking the champion to win at insane odds.
Getting +350 for a boxer of her talent is too good to pass up, and we expect savvy bettors to latch onto those odds. Take them before they shorten throughout the week.
We also like the fight to go over 8.5 rounds. However, it has been smashed in betting to -1600, so we’re not alone in our thinking that the fight will go the distance.
