Bayern Survive at Augsburg

Bayern Munich’s 19-year old defensive midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic opened up the scoring at Augsburg last Saturday with his first goal for the Bavarians. Alphonso Davies and Harry Kane also got on the scoresheet in a match that was a little too close for comfort for Bayern. Bayern won 3-2 and could have easily drawn if not for a Manuel Neuer penalty save on Sven Michel’s shot. Regardless, Thomas Tuchel’s men will take the victory as they moved within two points of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

The Bavarians have won five of their last six Bundesliga matches and Kane is the league’s leading scorer, with 23 goals. Following the match, Bayern brought in a defensive reinforcement. They signed French right back Sacha Boey from Galatasaray as Konrad Laimer is injured and Noussair Mazraoui is away at the Africa Cup of Nations. At the moment, Bayern does have quite a long list of absentees.

Mazraoui and Kim Min-jae are on international duty, while Laimer, Dayot Upamecano, Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman, and Serge Gnabry are all out injured. With Upamecano out, Eric Dier made his first start for Bayern at Augsburg and may be called upon again come Saturday. Here, the Bayern Munich vs Monchengladbach odds price Bayern as massive -675 favorites.

Gladbach Destined for Mid-Table Finish

Since finishing in fourth place in the 2019-20 season and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, Borussia Monchengladbach hasn’t finished above eighth place in the Bundesliga standings. With just 21 points through their first 19 Bundesliga games in 2023-24, it looks unlikely Gladbach will finish above mid-table. Still, they did manage to hold leaders Bayer Leverkusen to a scoreless draw on Saturday.

Leverkusen had a ton of chances in the match and completed a ridiculous 947 passes but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net. Borussia Monchengladbach have won just one of their last six Bundesliga matches. Plus, the clean sheet they kept on Saturday was their first in the league since November.

So far, Gerry Seaone’s side has put together just a 5-6-8 record and they’re just 1-4-4 away from home this season. Alassane Plea is Gladbach’s leading scorer in the Bundesliga, with seven goals, but he’s out with a foot injury. While Ko Itakura is at the AFC Asian Cup, Plea, Robin Hack, Tomas Cvancara, Max Wober, and Jonas Omlin are all injured. Only Wober may return in time for Saturday’s match.

Bayern Munich vs Monchengladbach Analysis & Odds

Borussia Monchengladbach seem to consistently raise their game when they face Bayern Munich. Gladbach have suffered some big defeats at the hands of Bayern over the years but those have typically been the exception rather than the norm. Here, the Bayern Munich vs Monchengladbach odds price the Bavarians as -675 favorites.

Bayern -2, -2.5 also comes in at -120 odds but they’ve won only one of their last ten matches vs. Gladbach by more than a one-goal margin. Thomas Tuchel’s side also looked quite shaky at Augsburg last weekend, with multiple defenders out of the lineup and Raphael Guerreiro playing as a makeshift right back. Under four goals sit at -125 odds but both teams have scored in 11 of the last 14 meetings overall.

Gladbach are +1300 underdogs for this one and Bayern haven’t completed a season sweep of Gladbach since the 2016-17 season. Borussia Monchengladbach +2, +2.5 displays even odds and they’ve only lost one match by a three-goal margin or more this season. A draw is also priced at +800 odds for Saturday’s match.
