CFL Week 6 Odds Preview: Road Trippin’

Three of Four Visitors Favored on CFL Odds

Calgary is the Lone Underdog Visitor and a Slight One

The Calgary Stampeders are the only underdogs as visitors with a +1.5 spread against Saskatchewan. The “Stamps” are struggling this season and have won just one of its four games. Meanwhile, Winnipeg is the biggest favorite at -9.5 as it visits Ottawa while Toronto visits Montreal as a five-point fave. Rounding out the CFL Week 6 odds is Hamilton being favored to extend Edmonton’s losing skid at home.

CFL Week 5 Review: Favorites Dominate With Defensive Statements

While road teams are mostly favored on the CFL Week 6 odds, the home teams swept the previous week. These hosts were also all favored and got the job done by limiting the visitors, the underdogs, to fewer than 20 points each. And all but one, Saskatchewan, covered the spread.

The Roughriders nearly gave Edmonton its first win of the season but scored late in the fourth to go up 12-11 on the Elks. Nic Marshall then picked off Taylor Cornelius to seal the deal. Meanwhile, Winnipeg spotted the Stampeders a 10-1 lead after the first. Then the Bombers outscored them 24-1 for the rest of the game.

Hamilton also got its first win of the season by defeating Ottawa 21-13 and the Lions bounced back from its first defeat by beating Montreal 35-19. The Lions scored the most points of the week and this game was the only one to go ‘over’ the totals.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-3) vs Edmonton Elks (0-5)

Date, time:
Location: The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton

Will this finally be the week Edmonton snaps its 19-game home losing streak? The odds are not in favor as Edmonton is a +120 underdog (+2.5 on the spread). Edmonton is back in the bottom of the CFL standings with no wins. It played Saskatchewan close but it’s been embarrassed in its other games. Hamilton is struggling like Edmonton thanks to a defense that’s allowed 30+ points in its three losses. Still, the total of 42.5 is the fewest this week.

Toronto Argonauts (3-0) vs Montreal Alouettes (2-2)

Date, time:
Location: Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, Montreal

Toronto goes for its sixth straight win and cover dating back to last year’s playoffs. It could have a tough time doing it in Montreal. It is just 1-5-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last seven visits. The Alouettes also need to rebound following two straight defeats. The total of 48 points is the most this week though Montreal’s last five home games have gone under.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (4-1) vs Ottawa Redblacks (1-3)

Date, time:
Location: TD Place Stadium, Ottawa

Winnipeg gets another lofty spread to cover per the CFL Week 6 odds. It looks to win a sixth straight game against Ottawa, which will again be without Jeremiah Masoli for the season. Dustin Crum threw for 149 yards and two interceptions as Ottawa added a pair of QBs to fill the void. The Bombers could shut out the Redblacks given their issues as all four of their games this season have gone under the totals.

Calgary Stampeders (1-3) vs Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-1)

Date, time:
Location: Mosaic Stadium, Saskatchewan

If the odds are correct, this should be the most competitive game of the CFL schedule. Calgary has won just one game so far but is actually 7-2 ATS in its last nine road games. The Stamps are also 6-2 ATS in its last eight visits to the Mosaic Stadium. Saskatchewan is 3-1 but two of its wins have come against Edmonton. The Roughriders have also won just one of its last eight home games.
