Odds To Win CFL Grey Cup: Winnipeg Continues To Lead

Blue Bombers Favored To Win Third Grey Cup in Four Seasons

With the 2023 CFL season underway, the odds to win the CFL Grey Cup haven’t changed: Winnipeg still stands at the top. The Blue Bombers hold the edge over the BC Lions and Toronto Argonauts. The former crushed them in a recent meeting, while the latter stopped their bid for a “three-peat” last Grey Cup. The odds continue to shift as the season progresses, so watch these contenders and other sleepers.

The 110th Grey Cup in 2023

Where, When, and What is the Grey Cup?

The CFL’s Grey Cup is the Canadian football equivalent of the NFL’s Super Bowl. It is typically played in November to conclude the 21-week CFL schedule. The winner from each division will face off in a pre-determined venue.

110th Grey Cup

  • Date: November 19, 2023
  • Stadium: Tim Hortons Field
  • Location: Hamilton, Ontario
  • Broadcast: CFL+

This year, the 110th edition of the Grey Cup will be in the Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton. This is the second time in three years for Hamilton to be the host due to the COVID-19 restrictions preventing many in-person activities two years ago.

If the odds of winning the CFL Grey Cup prove accurate, Toronto will rematch Winnipeg. As for the home team, the Tiger-Cats continue to struggle and are not even sure to make the playoffs. This team made the Grey Cup in 2019 and 2021, losing both times to Winnipeg.

Grey Cup History: Notable Records

The CFL first hosted the Grey Cup in its inaugural season in 1958. This was already the 46th Grey Cup after the first 45 iterations were contested between amateur teams. Winnipeg defeated Hamilton 35-28. Winnipeg’s coach, Bud Grant, would go on to win four Grey Cups in total before going to the NFL to lead the Minnesota Vikings to four Super Bowls.

Hamilton has made the most Grey Cup appearances, with 20 in total since 1958. They’ve won six and have the longest active drought, with their last victory coming in 1999.

Winnipeg has won the second-most Grey Cups with nine. Edmonton has won the most with 11, five of which it won consecutively from 1978 to 1982 with Warren Moon as their quarterback. He, of course, went on to have a Hall of Fame career in the NFL.

On another note, one American team won the Grey Cup: the Baltimore Stallions in 1995. They folded the same year.

The Future of the CFL Grey Cup

The Grey Cup will be continued to play as long as the CFL plays. The next two are already scheduled, with the 111th Grey Cup in Vancouver in 2024 and the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg in 2025.

The teams with the best CFL standings tend to make the Grey Cup. However, the team with the better record does not always win. This unpredictability makes betting on the odds to win the CFL Grey Cup thrilling.
