Head-to-Head PSV vs Borussia Dortmund

This is the first time the UEFA Champions League draw has paired PSV and Dortmund since 2002. Dortmund went 1-1-0 vs PSV in the group stage and those were the only two meetings all-time. Dortmund are 3-3-5 all-time vs Dutch opposition. Meanwhile, PSV are only 10-7-20 vs German teams.

PSV Remain Unbeaten in Eredivisie

PSV Eindhoven have dominated the Eredivisie in the UCL 2023-24 season. Heading into Tuesday’s Champions League round of 16 match vs Borussia Dortmund, PSV are 20-2-0 in the Eredivisie. They’ve scored 70 goals in the Dutch top flight this season and have conceded just 10 times. On Friday, PSV took down a 10-man Heracles Almelo as Luuk de Jong and Olivier Boscagli got on the scoresheet. The 2-0 win marked their second clean sheet in their last four matches.

De Jong’s goal was his 19th in the league this season and he provides PSV with an aerial threat. De Jong led PSV in the UCL group stage, with two goals. In the group stage, PSV went 2-3-1 and their only loss was at Arsenal. Plus, PSV haven’t lost a home match since November 2022 and are unbeaten in 16 matches at Philips Stadion this season.

They’ve lost just two matches this season, in all competitions, and it wouldn’t be shocking if they make a run deep into the UCL. Along with De Jong, players like Joey Veerman, Johan Bakayoko and Guus Til have been highly productive for PSV this season. However, winger Noa Lang is out for the season. Regardless, the PSV vs Dortmund UCL odds price the hosts as +120 favorites.

Battle-Tested Dortmund Gear up for Round of 16

Borussia Dortmund look out of the Bundesliga title race but they’re looking to make some noise in the Champions League. Dortmund emerged from one of the most challenging groups in recent memory with a 3-2-1 record and only conceded four goals. That makes them one of the Champions League’s best teams. Although they’ve failed to advance in three of their last four round of 16 appearances, Dortmund are battle-tested.

Over the weekend, Dortmund drew 1-1 at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, which kept them in fourth place. Niclas Fullkrug got on the scoresheet once again and the German international has six goals in his last four matches. Dortmund have also lost just three of their 16 road matches this season, in all competitions.

Gregor Kobel has played quite well in goal for Dortmund this season and he ranks joint-second in the UEFA Champions League stats with three clean sheets. Dortmund also made some interesting transfer market acquisitions in January. They brought in Chelsea left back Ian Maatsen and Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on loan. Sancho previously played for Dortmund and could give them the spark they need. While bettors can expect Karim Adeyemi, Sebastien Haller and Felix Nmecha to miss this match, Ramy Bensebaini is day-to-day with a cold.

Match Analysis & Odds PSV vs Dortmund

Any outcome is possible in this one and the odds to qualify for the Quarter-final certainly reflect that. Borussia Dortmund are -135 favorites to win over two legs, while PSV to qualify shows +105 odds. For Tuesday’s match in particular, PSV are +120 home favorites as they look to keep their home unbeaten streak intact. At the same time, Dortmund are unbeaten in their last nine matches, in all competitions.

The PSV vs Dortmund UCL odds price the visitors as +210 underdogs and Dortmund pk, +0.5 sits at -110 odds. PSV pk, -0.5 shows the same. While Dortmund have conceded just two goals in their last six matches, their offense typically isn’t as consistent. Fullkrug should get the nod up front while Donyell Malen has also had his moments lately with multiple two-goal games.

De Jong is the key guy up front for PSV and Dortmund’s plan should undoubtedly involve limiting the number of crosses sent in for him. In this wide open match, a draw is listed at +270 odds. Under three goals also show -125 odds as both sides have been solid on defense lately.
