EPL: West Ham vs Manchester City Odds
Premier League Leaders Head to London
City Going for Fifth Straight Win
No De Bruyne, no problem for Manchester City. The three-time defending champions are the last remaining perfect team in the Premier League, with four wins from four EPL matches. They’ll put their 100 percent record on the line when they head to London to take on West Ham on Saturday. Since losing their first match of the season, West Ham are on a three-game winning streak. We’ll take a look at City’s chances to improve to 5-0 as we preview the West Ham vs Manchester City odds.
West Ham vs Manchester City Head-to-Head
On last season’s Premier League schedule, Manchester City defeated West Ham twice and outscored the Hammers 5-0. Erling Haaland scored three goals in two matches, and West Ham have struggled heavily vs Manchester City in recent years. The Hammers are winless in the last 15 Premier League meetings, and last won at the Etihad in 2015.
West Ham Excelling Post-Rice
West Ham have been one of the most surprising teams in the league so far, as they’ve managed three wins from four games. It appeared that it wouldn’t be easy for David Moyes to replace former captain Declan Rice, who left for Arsenal. However, the Hammers have reinvested the huge fee they received from a number of players.
- They signed Ajax pair Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, and Dinos Mavropanos. Both Ward-Prowse and Alvarez play holding midfield, and Ward-Prowse has been incredibly productive so far.
In just three appearances, the former Southampton man has scored a goal and provided three assists. Kudus can line up as an attacking midfielder, and Mavropanos will provide crucial cover at center back. Jarrod Bowen has also been a standout for the Hammers and scored three goals already this season. Bowen scored the opener in West Ham’s 2-1 win at Luton Town, and Kurt Zouma scored their second. Despite the Hammers’ three-game winning streak, the West Ham vs Manchester City odds price the hosts as +540 underdogs.
West Ham are still looking for their first shutout of the season but have managed eight goals in their last three games. Since the 1-1 opening draw at Bournemouth, West Ham have gone 3-0 SU and ATS. The only injury concerns Moyes and West Ham have for Saturday are Tomas Soucek and Mavropanos.
Man City Building Momentum
Manchester City exploded for five goals in their final match before the international break. Erling Haaland scored a second half hat trick for the Cityzens in the 5-1 win. Haaland currently leads the Premier League stats with six goals and seven goal contributions in total. Along with Lionel Messi, the big Norwegian is a leading candidate for the Ballon d’Or. Four games into the Premier League season, City have the most wins, the best goal difference, and fewest goals conceded.
Pep Guardiola’s side still looks hungry even after winning three Premier League titles. Now that Kevin de Bruyne is on the sidelines for the next few months, Guardiola has opted to play Julian Alvarez and Haaland together. The attacking duo is one of, if not the best in world football at the moment. Phil Foden has also stepped up in De Bruyne’s absence and has provided three assists already this season.
City also reinforced their team just before the transfer deadline by signing winger Jeremy Doku and midfielder Matheus Nunes. City’s squad is deep enough that Bernardo Silva and Josko Gvardiol both sat on the bench for the win vs Fulham. While De Bruyne will be out for the foreseeable future, Jack Grealish and John Stones are nursing shorter-term injuries.
West Ham vs Manchester City Analysis & Odds
West Ham have never defeated Manchester City in a Premier League match under David Moyes. However, things haven’t been all bad in this fixture for the Hammers, especially at home. In the last four meetings at the London Stadium, West Ham have forced three draws in all competitions. In the 2021-22 EFL Cup, the Hammers even defeated City in penalties in the fourth round.
- Here, though, the West Ham vs Manchester City odds price City as -205 favorites. Man City -1, -1.5 also comes in at even odds but just two of their four wins so far have come by a multi-goal margin. The EPL odds price West Ham +1, +1.5 at -120 and the Hammers’ moneyline is +540.
A fourth draw in the last five matches at the London Stadium in this fixture displays +385 odds. Both West Ham and Man City have scored eight goals in their last three matches. Still, under three goals come in at -115 odds. West Ham have scored in every match they’ve played this season but didn’t score vs City last season.
