High Stakes Manchester Derby

United Looking to Hurt City’s Title Hopes

In a high stakes Manchester Derby, Manchester City host Manchester United on Sunday in the English Premier League. Man City are just one point behind EPL leaders Liverpool heading into the weekend and Pep Guardiola’s side need all three points. United aren’t in the title race but will certainly want to dent their rivals’ title hopes on Sunday. With Erling Haaland coming off a five goal performance in City’s 6-2 victory over Luton in the FA Cup on Tuesday, he’ll be feeling confident about getting on the scoresheet again. We’ll check out the Man City vs. Man United odds in our Manchester Derby Preview.

Man City vs Man United Head-to-Head

In four career games vs. Manchester United, Erling Haaland has scored five goals. The Norwegian found the net twice in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Man United last October. Last season, these teams split their Premier League meetings but City have won four of the last five on the EPL schedule. Manchester Derby Previews note Man United have won two of the last four EPL Manchester Derbies at the Etihad. Still, City hold a 6-1-3 record in the last 10 meetings overall.

Haaland and De Bruyne Superb for City

Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne were out of this world in Tuesday’s 6-2 victory over Luton town. Haaland scored five goals in 58 minutes and De Bruyne provided assists on four of his goals. The duo has struggled with injuries this season but appear to be rounding into form. De Bruyne is Man City’s overall assist leader this season, despite missing 27 games and only playing 602 minutes. He’s provided 12 assists already and is still among the best playmakers in the world.

Haaland hasn’t been at his best this season but his raw numbers are still excellent. The Norwegian has scored 27 goals in 30 appearances, in all competitions. Phil Foden often gets overlooked for his contributions and he’s scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists. Pep Guardiola’s side is nearing full strength as we enter the final stretch of the season. All of Haaland, De Bruyne, John Stones and Jack Grealish are now healthy. Just Josko Gvardiol is sidelined at the moment.

Heading into this match, Man City are unbeaten in their last 11 in the Premier League and last 16 overall. The Premier League betting odds price the Cityzens as +110 favorites to win a fourth straight EPL title. They’re one point behind leaders Liverpool at the moment and just one point ahead of Arsenal. With a three team title race ahead of us, there is very little margin for error.

United Advance to FA Cup Quarter-Final

Before last Saturday’s match vs. Fulham, Manchester United finally looked to be finding their form. United had won their last five matches overall and last four in the Premier League. They had also scored at least two goals in each of those matches, with Rasmus Hojlund shining. Before going down with a muscle injury, the Danish striker had scored in each of his last six matches.

With Hojlund out vs. Fulham, the Red Devils fell 2-1 at Old Trafford in their first home loss vs. the Cottagers for 21 years. Manchester United enter the weekend in sixth place in the Premier League standings, eight points outside of a Champions League spot. On Wednesday, United went on the road to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fifth round. Antony hit the post in the first half and Matt Turner made some important saves on Scott McTominay headers.

The breakthrough for United finally came in the 89th minute, when Casemiro headed in a Bruno Fernandes free kick. United, like Manchester City, are onto the FA Cup Quarter-Final, where the Red Devils will take on rivals Liverpool. This weekend, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Mount, Anthony Martial and Tyrell Malacia are out, along with Hojlund.

Man City vs Man United Match Analysis & Odds

Manchester United will undoubtedly want to stick one to their rivals here and make it that much harder for them to win a fourth straight title. Still, our Manchester Derby preview notes that Manchester City are massive -375 favorites. With Hojlund out, United are struggling to score goals and it’s going to be incredibly difficult to contain De Bruyne and Haaland.

Erling Haaland has scored more goals than games he’s played vs. Man United and he’ll want to continue his goalscoring form here. On the other hand, bettors can back Manchester United at +875 odds. United +1.5 also sits at +115 odds and the Red Devils did lose by a three goal margin at the Etihad last season.

Meanwhile, Man City -1.5 shows -135 odds and a draw is priced at +800. Man City would be big favorites even if not for United’s injury issues, but United will be missing some key pieces here. Man City alone have scored 10 goals in their last two games vs. United at the Etihad but under 3.5 goals are priced at -115 odds for this one.
