Head-to-Head

A look at the EPL stats shows that Chelsea are winless in their last five Premier League matches vs. Manchester City. At Stamford Bridge back in November, these teams played in a thrilling eight goal draw. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer scored a stoppage time penalty vs. his former club to grab a point. Man City are unbeaten in their last seven matches vs. Chelsea, in all european competitions. City have kept shutouts vs. the Blues in six of those seven games.

Man City Rounding into Form

Both Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden managed to score a goal and provide an assist in Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Copenhagen on Tuesday. It was City’s 11th straight win, in all competitions, and they’re rounding into form at the perfect time. De Bruyne has made an incredible return from a four month injury. The Belgian superstar has registered seven goal contributions in just five matches since returning.

De Bruyne has scored or assisted in all five matches he’s played since his return. Meanwhile, Erling Haaland recently returned from an injury as well and scored two goals in last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Everton. Heading into the weekend, Haaland leads the Premier League with 16 goals.

City are in second place in the EPL at the moment, just two points behind leaders Liverpool. The Cityzens also have a game in hand and are -175 favorites to win a fourth straight Premier League title.

Bettors should note that a couple of Man City players went off injured in the match vs. Copenhagen. Jack Grealish didn’t even last a half before going off with a groin injury. Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva picked up an ankle bruise. Grealish and Josko Gvardiol are expected to miss this match, while Silva and Mateo Kovacic are considered doubtful. Regardless, City have a lot of roster depth and the Man City vs Chelsea odds list City as 1.5-goal favorites.

Chelsea Score Three in Back-to-Back Games

Chelsea have scored three goals in back-to-back matches and have excelled in cup competitions this season. Next Sunday, they take on Liverpool in the EFL Cup final in Mauricio Pochettino’s first opportunity to win silverware as Chelsea manager. Chelsea also defeated Aston Villa 3-1 in the fourth round replay of the FA Cup last week. On Monday, Chelsea fell behind 1-0 in an EPL match at Crystal Palace but orchestrated a second half comeback.

Conor Gallagher scored twice vs. the club he went on loan to in the 2021-22 season and Enzo Fernandez added a third. Gallagher has scored three goals in his last two appearances while Fernandez has scored in back-to-back games. With the win, Chelsea moved up to 10th place in the Premier League standings, with a 10-4-10 record. The Blues have been quite inconsistent this season but they do have some game changing players.

Cole Palmer, who will be returning to the Etihad on Sunday for the first time since leaving Man City, has scored 10 goals and provided six assists in the EPL. Raheem Sterling has also refound his form this season, to the tune of five goals and three assists. Expect Christopher Nkunku to play a bigger role as he finds his fitness again following a long-term injury. Chelsea still have a bunch of injuries, with Benoit Badiashile, Romeo Lavia, Lesleyh Ugochukwu, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez, Reece James and Wesley Fofana out.

Match Analysis & Odds

In one of the most-anticipated Premier League fixtures this weekend, Man City are -315 home favorites vs. Chelsea. The Blues have lost their last four matches at the Etihad and have failed to score in each one. Man City -1.5 shows -110 odds here, along with Chelsea +1.5. Bettors shouldn’t expect another eight goal thriller but both teams have been finding it relatively easy to score goals lately.

Man City have scored 13 goals in their last five EPL games, while Chelsea have scored 10. Here, under 3.5 goals come in at -140 odds. Chelsea are +755 underdogs, which corresponds to a 11.7 percent chance of victory. Notably, City are unbeaten at the Etihad since November 2022.

The Man City vs Chelsea odds price a draw at +460 and Chelsea could do Arsenal and Liverpool a favor if they’re able to snag a point here. Still, with Haaland and De Bruyne getting back into form, it could be a long day for Pochettino’s Blues.
